"Cloudy with a chance of 79% of bankruptcy".  That was a difficult sentence.

86% of time time stats are made up on the spot. I would be more worried if I was invested in the xbox brand with a new CEO coming for MS.

Since they reported a percentage, I believe them.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

I surely hope they'll be fine this gen and next gen too... Need my Ape Escape

this actually makes alot of sense to me. as a best buy employee for the past 8 years ive seen there product presence greatly dwindle.
digital imaging: cybershots are next to junk, the alpha slrs are not competitve with nikon and canon, their strong point is their video cameras and video software.
mp3s: that market is either buy apple, a cheap sandisk, use your phone.
laptops: though i really like the vaios, their premium price point hinders them, im not sure, but that dept can't be very profitable, and their attempt to join the tablet scene wasn't very strong.
tv's: again, like laptops, they make great sets, but their price holds them back. 5 years ago sony tvs were all over the walls. now its all samsung, lg and vizio. they tried to be the best at 3D, gut it didnt catch many people, now they're doing the same with 4k....
the xperia phone....ehh, they're hit and miss, but again its dominated (at least in the u.s.) by apple and samsung.
they truly are riding ''playstation'', and as stated ps3 had profit issues, vita isnt as big as they'ed hope, the ps4 could be make or break....

Even if the worse comes to worse, they can just sell off some of their assets and patents to keep them alive for decades

Sony has been second tier in a lot of ways for a long time. The fact that they have managed to execute properly for the first time in a while with the PS3 for the last 18-24 months and with regard to getting the PS4 doesn't mean they are safe at all.

Microsoft is in the same boat. Their Xbox, phone and search divisions bleed money that is covered by PC Window sales and Microsoft Office sales but all it takes is for the gravy train to stop or slow and suddenly those loses and the decisions that support them, become untenable.

All of tech is in a pretty bad bubble right now and there is going to be a lot of companies bleeding when the tech bubble pops. Sony and Microsoft could both be hurting because the bubble popping will, in effect, show a lot of money was being spent to chase some future profits that now don't exist.

Sony slashed their profit forecast this year by 40% already.

For the record, bankruptcy does NOT mean a company is going out of business. Marvel Comics filed for bankruptcy protection (chapter 11) back in 1996 and how are they doing now? So before the Sony hardcore get all emotionally defensive, understand what is actually being stated here.

That being said, this analysis is nothing new. Sony has been doing better, but it's still not good. Bankruptcy would likely mean that they are still trying to right the ship instead of being a death sentence.

Sony is now just a shadow of its former selves, they should have ditch the PlayStation 3 from the get go and stick with other things. Only thing that can make them float is the PlayStation 4 if by some miracle comes close to PlayStation 2 numbers and everyone accepts to be ripped off by PlayStation Plus that is needed for features that are behind this pay wall...

Like Microsoft did from get go with Xbox and Sony is now doing the same thing to be a float and everyone bashed Microsoft for its pay walls and now when Sony has it then everyone is quite, them double standards.

Everyone is yelling Nintendo doomed for past couple of decades while ignoring recent serious problems that Sony has and now this smack down arrived to keep people in line with reality. You can ignore the reality for some time, but in the end it will smack down you hard, you can be in denial yet in the end deep inside you will know the truth.

Sony should do Sega to PlayStation Vita if things don't improve in 2014 and first sign of major trouble for PlayStation 4 then abandon ship and sell what you can while maintaining reputation, a complete Sega move. Lets be honest, would you want to see Sony dying slowly or finally getting out of trouble and survive and maybe in the end return its self to their former glory in some other way. Maybe even after abandoning they could return if handhelds or consoles keep being relevant to the consumers...

I would rather Sony to survive then be stubborn and "die"(go bankrupt) in the end...

People need to face with reality and I hope they will for their sake and pride that they still have for now... Nintendo is not going anywhere, they hit the lowest in 6th generation in one way or another, cockroach always win in the end the fallout compared to a fragile spider.
