Forums - Sony - Macroaxis: Sony Has 79% Chance of Going Bankrupt in the Next 2 Years

According to Macroaxis, a financial engineering tool website that analyzes companies and determines their well-being, Sony Entertainment has a discouraging 79% chance of going bankrupt in the next 2 years. (You can go here if you want to learn more about Macroaxis and how they operate.)

“Based on latest financial disclosure Sony Corporation has Probability Of Bankruptcy of 78%. This is 182.34% higher than that of Consumer Goods sector, and 163.57% higher than that of Electronic Equipment industry, The Probability Of Bankruptcy for all stocks is 122.48% lower than the firm.”

While it wouldn’t be factual to say that SNE will fail in the next 2 years (it’s all a guess), the 78.49% figure is based off of real, actual numbers. Many will consider this number overly inflated, but it all doesn’t sound too far-fetched when you take into consideration some of the things that have been happening over in Sony Land. Last year, Sony’s market value was slashed down to “junk” status, and they’ve sold multiple HQ buildings as well.

Not to mention, Sony still hasn’t recovered from all of the money they’ve lost on the PS3, and the Vita is still not profitable and isn’t selling as well as it should.

For comparative purposes, Macroaxis is stating that Nintendo has only a 22% chance of failing in the next 2 years, which is very ironic considering the fact that the majority of gamers and journalists online are always claiming that Nintendo is in imminent danger, when in reality Nintendo is very healthy and Sony is the actually the one closest to failing out of the console manufacturers.

Personally, I feel that Sony will be just fine and this is just a statistic, it doesn’t mean something will actually happen at the end of the day. I’ve been fully aware of Sony’s financial woes for the last 7 years (unlike most gamers) but at the same time, I feel that they are a smart enough corporation to turn things around. Let us know what you guys think down below.

Won't happen, although I see them selling some of their core segments to stay alive

The numbers provided here are meaningless, and thus I distrust the claim being made. The probability of bankruptcy of all stocks can't possibly be 122.48% lower, because that would make the probability negative, and probabilities can't be negative. Furthermore, one cannot talk of a probability of an event being "182% higher" than that of another event - anybody with even a meagre grasp on statistics knows that this is a meaningless thing to say.

As much as I think Sony is in financial trouble, I don't think this supposed analysis is meaningful. And, just as with any other case of analysis being released for free, I find it to be highly suspicious.

The money lost on gaming is chump change. People don't understand how small the gaming division is. Sony Insurance is so much bigger and is the reason Sony is still alive (it makes big money)

Their maths is a bit off.

When I did my calculations last week i got 78.23%.

Guessing they forgot to factor in those Knack sales in the UK beating SM3D World.

In other news: there is a 50% chance i'll drop dead tonight. It's not looking good for me.

Sounds very unlikely. If Sony were to become in so deep shit they would either sell or shut down some of the parts of the company that's causing the trouble.

Also, the 22% chance with Nintendo is complete bull.

They will be fine, yes they lost truckloads of money on the PS3, but they did manage to survive it and with the PS4 being the gamers choice this generation I can see them last at least 5 years.

Lol. I like you.
