Forums - Sony - The reason i`m starting to think seriously about going X1 or PC only in 2014.

Sony Brazil stopped accepting my credit card for PSN buys, since i decided going full digital this year there`s been a long time i dont buy packaged game. So, i decided to jaibreak my console, i want to buy GT6 legally, but they won`t let me, and I want it digital, and then now it`s just impossible to jailbreak the PS3, they blocked all the doors and now you need to go hardware to do it. There`s been not long since they won`t let me buy anything, something like 2 months, while Xbox store still accept the local credit cards.

I do want to play GT6, and do want to own a PS4 instead a X1, but their practices around here are getting inexcusable, US$ 2000,00 console, no digital store, no jailbreaking ( wouldn`t be a problem if they had a functional digital store).

I mean, i love sony franchises and all, and next year i`m travelling to France and would buy a PS4 there, but if they give a half baked product while MS offers me a complete experience it`s not a hard choice, and even considering I turned into more a PC gamer because of STEAM , PS4 would be used mainly for 1st parties and FF XV.  I migrated all my media consumption to digital this year, games, music, books and movies, and I like to stay that way.

About your PS3 problem, they changed the policy to accept credit card payments because of changes in the law. Anyway, they should do what MS does, since they aren't having these issues. You could try creating a US account, since it looks that your card is international, you could buy without issues. Or try a national cad on Brazilian PSN. PSN gift cards are another option and you can buy them at Saraiva online.

Why the hell would you jailbreak your PS3 if you can even think of affording a 2000$ PS4?

I had a jailbroken PS3 for a while, it's not worth it with PS+, so I formatted the drive and went 100% legit... anyway, the homebrw scene is stupidly bad on the PS3, I saw no benefots to it... and I have an Ouya now for my emulation needs!

Anyway, with the price in Brasil I would get an XB1 too... (I have a PS4, it's both better and cheaper here...)

I don't think your argument apply to a whole lot of people...

I didn`t actually jailbroke it, i tried, but i couldn`t. PS3 still with the OFW. It was a act of anger towards Sony.

$2000 for a console? That's just ridiculous. Why not just get a PC then? It's completely open, you can mod to your hearts content and you always have the best version of multi-platform games.

And there`s another reason this is so upseting. With this block to credit cards many people won`t be able to buy the PSN only titles and the microtransactions that will become more common. ( Yes, i did buy microtransactions for Tales of Xillia gold, you can judge me now, i see microtransactions as a Gameshark cheat u need to pay). And also I won`t be able to sign to +. The pre-paid cards are in very limited availability, my city for example has no store selling them. And the online retailers that send the code via email are buying a annoying tax, they`re selling the 250 reais card for 320 reais (???????).

While here in the Sony side of the force we`re having all this hussle the xboxnians can type the card info and have stuff just done, or if they prefer to buy the pre-paid card they find it in any mall and pay what they`re really worth. Brazillian gamers get fucked all the time, MS at least is doing their job trying to make things better, Sony looks like they don``t give a crap about us.

Just go PC. The only reasons to ever keep a console is for the exclusives or console exclusives. This generation will experience a decline in the gaming industry altogether.

Going with XB1 if your plan is to go "all digital" is a dubious choice given the non-upgradable internal HDD. Sure, the XB1 is rumored to have installation support on external drive in the future, but until that's an actual thing, why would anyone use what may happen as their reason for choosing a platform?

And I can guarantee MS' policy towards hardware hacking is no more lenient than SCE's. Count on it. Banned account, loss of any legitimate purchases once detected. And if the idea was to use pirated games, I don't think either MS or SCE would be sad to lose your "business."

If you're having issues with e-payments, there are, as people have been point out, ways around them, but it sounds like you've already made up your mind.

Stick with PC if it's an issue and forget about the console exclusives if your perceived consumer rights mean that much to you.

And as convenient as it may be to have games pre-installed on console, currently, one is better off buying games on discs so they can easily install and re-install games if deleted without having to redownload them as games approach 30+GB.

It is ridiculous.

Some of the international pricing for consoles and games really have me scratching my head at times, but hey; that's up to the bean counters at their respective corporations to decide how limited they want to make the market for their products in a given region.

But for $2000, even as someone who games on console by default and prefers to use consoles for gaming, I would build a great gaming PC without a second thought instead. In that price range, I'd be pretty happy with what I could build. Of course I'm thinking in terms of the type of build I'd be able to put together based upon US prices for components, which I understand are also lower than in many other regions of the world.

I'd still be missing out on the console exclusives, which were among my most played over the past 6-7 years though. No amount of money thrown into a PC would change that. Of course, I'd never throw that kind of money into a console just so I could play those titles.

Why did you decide to go only digital?
Also, what if you have the same problem on the X1?

I'm with you there.  While I also prefer consoles due to the easiness of it all, if I had to pay $2000 then I would play on PC for sure.  I nfact when I bought DCU Online on PS3 and then the same game on the PC, the difference was night and day.  While the PS3 version wasn't bad by any means, the performance on the PC was light years ahead and made it hard to go back.  Again a MMO is harder to play on a console without keyboard and mouse and adding to a console while sitting on the couch is not an ideal option.

I more or less had that revelation back in 2008 when my friend saw what I was playing on XB360 and joked "why don't you just play those on PC?" since they were all PC games ported for console. So I bought a quad core PC, gutted it, rebuilt it, opened a Steam account and suddenly I had my 1920x1080/60fps+ gaming experience.

Of course it all depends on what you're playing. Most of the games I play are better with a controller and even though FPS games are easier with a mouse pointer, I still tend to play with controller.

But I still game primarily on console, mostly because the PC that has all my games installed on it is rarely ever turned on whereas I can just pick up a controller, push a button and be playing in about a minute when I'm in the living room.

In a lot of cases, it's just a matter of which platform has the cheapest copy of a given game. Steam deal = PC. Amazon deal or retail sale = console.

Also, it's an odd personal quirk, but I often play games standing up right in front of the HDTV, arcade style, which doesn't work well with a desktop PC set up. If I was really hardcore, I could put my standing workstation in front of the HDTV so I could M/KB standing up, but I'm not that hardcore.
