Forums - Sales - So how bad is Xone looking to beat PS4 in Dec NPD/USA sales?

Isn't it a bit early to be talking about December NPD? We won't get those numbers for a whole month. We barely have any December VGChartz numbers yet.

WiiU is easier to find than XB1. By your logic I should expect it to outsell the XB1.

Except for the fact that one is in it's launch window and the other is a year old.

Oh yes how could I forget a console not being sold out in launch window means more sales.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

How many threads do we need about "I saw an Xbone in the wild! It's not selling out! PS4 does! PS4 demand higher!"-thread?

Why do you think they're on the shelves?

Look at US sales since November 23rd. You seriously believe they aren't selling?

I didn't say they aren't selling, I'm saying do you really think they can win if there is stock on shelves. They need to be sold out constantly if they want to beat ps4.

Well, there's only a week to go, we'll see what happens soon.

Actually, you did.

THat would be if you took 'why do you think they're on the shelves', as "they're not selling" instead of "they're not selling enough". It could be read both ways, but I'm not such a fool to say they aren't selling at all. Clearly stock is low everywhere....yet they are still on shelves.

Take the example that MS ships a hundred thousand units units. Say, out of ten thousand stores, that's 10 per store. If there are 2 in every store, then that's 80% sell through. All ps4 needs to then ship is 80k. So yeah, it's a little more complicated than that.

ANd you will address me as 'my lady', tyvm.

I think the one that will outsell the other will do that with just a small margin. Because we all know that the demand is high for both of them, especially since they are just launched and also since it's Christmas time. We also know that both consoles will be of shortage and that many will not be able to buy either one of them.

However, I do think that the PS4 would have outsold the X1 if they both had high availability in stocks, mainly because it is cheaper and would appeal to most because of that, also because of the good response and media attention of the PS4 and terrible for the X1.

But this fall, they will be very equal in sales. But the European market will be more interesting to see, I have no doubt in my mind that the PS4 will outsell the X1 there, because of reasons known to every. But, once again low stocks might make the numbers equal here too.

I misread your original comment.  I actually agree with you that having XB1's readily available is not a good sign.

There's a chance.
But with all this NA pushing of MS I can't see how XB1 will do well in the rest of the world.

With a price drop, a great game library and marketing. This gen just started. Not even 5% of the total LTD of this console generation has been sold yet. We are still at early adopter stage. Next holiday season will be the first big season that matters. If the price of the Xbox One is $399 at that point with Halo launching and Titanfall already out it should be a good battle. We have at least 5 more holiday seasons before this gen starts to tail off. Just wait till the consoles hit $299 which is the magical price point.

So I was assuming that due to supply, MS would win December NPD (I figured about 1.25 to 1).  Until I was in Best Buy today.  I hadn't been in a store for about a month (I avoid all retail outlets during the holiday season).  But Best Buy had a $30.00 off deal for the new Kindle Fires.

So I ventured to the nearest Best Buy.  As soon as I walked in, there was a stack of XB one's front and center (see pic below).  I was then using the Vita demo model to try out Tearaway (fun game!) and a sales associate asked me if I needed anything.  I figured I'd ask about the PS4 and was told they got 40 on Sunday morning and they lasted about 10 minutes.

So I would now guess that they will be even in the December NPD, or PS4 will be slightly ahead.  It comes down to whether MS had a lot more supply,  there is a lot less demand for the XB One, or something in the middle.  I come down on the side of MS having a little more supply, but moderately less demand.

And I know, it's anecdotal, it's just my opinion.

Just went to local walmart for some last minute groceries. They have at least 4 ps4s in the case and 3 XBOs. Saw one family purchasing an XBO.

It really seems that finding stock is just being in the right place at the right time. But I will say that MS shipped a ton of XBOs last week. Well, at least it looks that way.
