Well, lets wait till the game comes out first before seeing what we do and don't like... Change is good sometimes, but if it comes out and feels like ass, (which might be a good thing depending on the ass) than we can flame it

Do you have a link to the trailer?
As far as I know single items were never dragged behind you without you manually pushing and holding the fire button.

No big deal, as long as we are warned when a red shell's coming I see no problem with this "new" mechanic.
Or..
The gamepad screen could serve as a rear mirror so we could deploy our items at the right time.

So yeah it could be that they made some changes. We have nothing solid about it though. So just wait for the reviewers to clear things up. Maybe there are 2 modes available, oldschool and easy.
