Have you skipped SSB on N64 and Gamecube? They didn't have campaigns either

You'll unlock characters by doing certain task!


If you missed the originals, even without the campaign, they'll probably still have the other few campaign modes (classic, event match, etc.), so usually you're able to unlock characters through those, with maybe one or two only being unlocked if you play a metric ton of multiplayer matches.

LOL! They announced a new character for Smash, by using a CG video from Mario Kart 8 which revealed a new character for that game as well: Rosalina. 

What's so hard to understand here?

This! Initially I thought "a new Kirby Airride game!", then "OMG the new Rainbow Road and Kirby in MK8!!!" followed by "Huh, Rosalina? Why was her entrance so glorified?" then I was like "WTF! This was all for Smash Bros.!? Screw you Sakurai!!!"
