Nope. Its an awesome idea that MS once again can't do properly. I thought it was funny when I sat in front of the Kinect and it signed my friend in. I thought it was funny when I started up the IE app but it brought up Youtube instead, so I said, "Xbox, go to Internet Explorer", then it snapped IE and I couldn't unsnap anything. I gave up on Kinect right then and there. And apparently this Kinect is better than the 360 version? lol, oh MS, only you could make hardware this unstable.

So no, I always have it unplugged, but its definitely an awesome idea.

funny....I've never had anything like that happen when I'm playing the x1 at my friend's place.

the only issue is when one of my friends who looks like me and I are sitting next to each other and the kinect confuses us, but other than that, none of those other issues I've observed.

Yeah I'm sure its not a big problem and everyones going to run into different problems (or none at all), I just don't find Kinect to be revolutionary like every Xbox fan says. It saves a few seconds (when it works) and it wastes seconds (when it doesn't work). Kinect is pretty much useless unless you have a game that uses it specifically.

"...kinect to be revolutionary like every xbox fan says." -  Not every person who is a fan of the xbox says that.  Fanboys, maybe, but not every xbox fan.

"useless unless you have a game that uses it specifically" - totally disagree.  if you're trying to find something that is hidden beneath layeres upon layers of menus and waypoints, simply saying the name of the app or whatever to go there in an instant is much more easier and faster.  And when you're in the kitchen and you have your hands full in there and don't want to go pick up the controller, physically type in whatever and navigate to whatever app, simply shouting out (depending on how far you are from the xbox) to get where you want is eons more efficient.  I can definitely name more non-gaming uses for kinect, but I'll leave it at that.  Oh yeah, the way kinect quickly (and yeah, it's pretty instant) scans your xbox live code is pretty darn useful.

I don't know if you've been on the Xbox One store but it is empty!! And that's why pins were made and are much more useful than useing Kinect, at least for me anyways. I've said, "Xbox, turn off" and it went to playing CoD: Ghosts.

Yes! Scannign was the biggest use of the Kinect so far. When I got the day one edition Xbox One edition I heard about scanning the code instead of typing it in so I tried it and it worked like a charm. So yeah you definitely have a point there but the rest just depends on if it works or not.

um..the xbox one store isn't empty- there are tons of games in it.

and my comment was not exclusively meant for the xbox one store.  pretty much anything can be hidden beneath layers of menus.

and your xbox went to ghosts instead of turning off?  that's literally the first time I've heard of that happening when the commands for each are so different.

lol, yes, TONS. TONS of games available lol, pages and pages. And yes, Kinect went to Ghosts instead of turning off, its not the most unbelievable thing in the world and there's a first time for everything, not like your never gonna hear about it again. You seem pretty defensive btw.

I am more inclined to believe Sonys understanding of the flaws of controller-free motion controls. You should see their video for the creation of the Move. They explain all of the things wrong with hands free motion controls six years before the Kinect came out. Its not doing anything that hasn't been done, its just good marketing.

Gosh they have been working on motion gaming since long before that.  In 1981-82 I had a 'Le Stick.'   The first real motion controller.  Pretty sure it had mercury in it.  It was an interesting novelity, but hard to use.  Nintendo corrected the problem of referance point with the cameras in the controllers and the 'sensor bar.'

Sony just seemed to copy the Wii.  But they put the camera on the TV rather than the controllers themselves. Added the glowing ball as an easy way to try the forward back axis without using two cameras and tons of math.  Sure it's more accuate (I hear) than the wii, but not really a major change.

Microsoft could always add objects that you hold to Kinect.  I'm surprized they haven't added a row of cameras like microphones.  But most of us can see 3D fine with our two eyes, and our brain doing a bunch of math.

Plus Sega had their own 'controller free' system. (Wasn't it Sega) in the early 90's. It was a cirlce you put on the ground and had an infa red detector. (Not explainint it too well, can't find it right now.)

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

People shouldn't HAVE to put up with "layers and layers" of UI.

Every UI has steps to get to something, the Kinect eliminates the majority of those steps.

Sony started the motion controls in 2004 when no other surviving console brand was using motion controls as an alternative way to game. In the R&D Videos they began development on the move two years before the Wii came out (immediately after the Eyetoy launched) because they said you are essentially stuck in min-game hell no matter how powerful the camera gets. I will agree that the move controls do resemble the Wii-mote, but Sony noted that in order for a 3D realm to be controlled while the camera motion process is going on you must have a peripheral in your hand. The move allows you to control the 3D world via a analog stick in the controller and the motion control 1:1 tracking allows you to accurately swing. Even with the Wii motion plus the Move is still more accurate. Primesense was going to give their tech to Sony but Sony turned the tech down because they deemed that tech limited. Eventually Microsoft got their hands on it and that is what is known as the Kinect today.

Essentially the break down is Sony got the idea down before the both of them for how it should properly work to play real games. Well Microsoft never had an idea they just bought someone elses product. Not only can you move and control the 3D world but you can manipulate it. I implore you to look at the games called 'The Fight' vs 'Punch Out' vs 'The fighter Within'. Even last gen tech Move and Wii are more accurate than the current Kinect. The move demands full use of your body motion and swinging.

Microsoft will not add objects to the Kinect because they've been selling a lie. If you add to it, its a cop out. Ryse becoming a non-kinect game should've been the first indicator of failure for the Kinect 2 to the world. The problem is...people will always justify paying $100 extra for a device that at true value for what you're getting is probably worth half and should be left up to choice rather than force bundled. MS is smart, they knew the fanfare for motion controls had died down. How do you turn a profit on motion control tech when you no longer want to take the risk on people turning it down themselves? Force bundle it. Create artificial demand. Problem for MS now is that they will have to create loads of software to make up for ramming it down peoples throats.

At best its a Dance Central min-game camera and multimedia scroller. The commands are nice when they do work. Again, this is just my opinion after using the Kinect 2. Xbox Snap can be accessed wit a controller. Kinect isn't needed. You get to the main screen quicker by just pressing the Xbox button and once everything is pinned to your front area your primary access items are well within reach. They need to fix the leagues of walls that you must go through to get to your destination. Once they fix that the Kinect might not even need to be around (especially seeing that they added the headset). Again...just my opinion.

oh yeah, ok.  I'm just carrying on a perfectly rational conversation with you and you just call me defensive?

In what way am I being defensive?

You said there aren't any games in the xbox one store, I said there are.  You're the one who provided a false statement.

second, I never said anything about the kinect's capabilities being exclusive to the game store- you're the one who wrongly assumed that.  Honestly, I don't even know how you assumed that.

third, I stated that your experience with the kinect going to ghosts instead of shutting off was the first time I heard that happening so far.  I didn't defy your statement nor did I call you liar, just that something like that was rare.

I honestly have no idea how you came to the conclusion that I was being defensive from my statements..  :/

and to prayformojo- give me an example of a ui (that works amazingly well) that doesn't have multiple layers of menus.  Only way I see that happening is one, huge side-scrolling page- now, that would be highly inefficient.

It was this thing:

The Sega Activator. Before the Activator Nintendo had third-party motion control accessories like the Power Glove and U-Force. But like most other attempts at motion controls back in the 20th century, these peripherals never worked like they were supposed to. In my 30 years of video gaming, I've never once seen motion control as something truly revolutionary. Even though we've finally gotten them to work pretty well, in most cases a simple button push will suffice for either gameplay applications or UI navigation. Whenever I finally get an XBO, I will simply leave the Kinect in the box. I have no use for such a device. The gamepad (which I got to handle at Walmart today; feels just as good as the 360 gamepad) will fulfill all my needs, as I could use it to turn the machine on and off (and more often than not I'd end up just pressing the power button the system itself), navigate menus, etc., just like I do on my 360, PS3, PS4, and Wii U, and the potential gameplay applications seem too limited to bother with.

In 20 years from now someone will post a similar message but with a picture of the Kinect and how we will laugh at how primitive it was :)

Anyone who does this is a complete douche. Even if you don't ever play a single game with it, it makes navigation WAY faster. It makes playing in large parties easier by switching profiles without you doing anything except hand over the controller.

Only a complete moron would say otherwise. And don't give me the but its my opinion BS.

Its a fact that its faster and easier with Kinect. There is no single reason other than being a douche as to why you wouldn't have it Kinected for non game functions.

Has no one heard of pins? I pin everything I use. Its all you need in one space.

No. Anyone who buys the Kinect has a right to do whatever they want with it. They can keep it or unplug it. its not as important as you think. Most people will pin everything to their main page anywhere so they dont have to search through the layers and layers of ui. Being a douche is forcing the Kinect on everyone. Judging people for what they buy or how they game is a douche-like thing to do . Just let them be.

Wow. Its the internet, don't take everything so literally. You can't have a rational discussion with someone who can't pick up what you're putting down. When I said the Xbox One store was empty, I didn't mean there's ZERO things in it, I meant there's hardly anything in there, and there isn't. You have the option to view just games and when you do, not a whole lot pops up. My point? You can find anything game related quite easily and when you do, Pin it because you will find it to be very useful not having to go through the "huge amounts" of menu's.

As for the defensive point? You seem to argue against every point I come up with for why I do not like Kinect. I'm sorry if that offends you but that's just how I saw it.
