Well, Wii U, PS4 and X1 are 8th gen because the ONLY thing that defines a generation is the release date.
They're current gen now because all console are released.
PS3, X360 and Wii are last gen.

8th gen, both in terms of timing and performance...

just look at SSB, MK, Mario Land graphics, project X, seriously above the best Xbox360/Ps3 graphics, and WiiU is only 1st year, also can be compared to Ps4/XboxONE launch graphics, so yeah, WiiU is much closer to Ps4/XboxONE than Ps3/Xbox360

Wii U is a next-gen console. It's the first 8th generation launch console.

Next-Gen has nothing to do with specs or graphics.

It saddens me that 18% of you either don't know what a generation is or feel a psychological need to denigrate something just to rationalize your allegiance to something else.

I'd have agreed with that except for the volume of posts that vocalize the voted percentage of the poll.

Yeah, sadly those that can take these "wars" in a lighthearted way are a minority.

Ofcourse WiiU is 8th gen, it is the successor to Wii.

This! Given a start generation there isn't any higher one that cannot be reached with enough duck-tape!   

WiiU is as next gen as the concept of next gen can be.

I hope this generation last long enough to wait for real VR tech and Nintendo can put a WiiU into a handheld form for 200$ to sell as their handheld and then their super souped up wiiu they sell as their console
