Forums - Nintendo Discussion - At last, Nintendo (and Best Buy) have convinced this veteran cynical Nintendo fan to cave and pick up a Wii U. My impressions.

Exactly my experience too. Not as great as the Wii, but still a fun console. I am also keen to see more wiimote games, especially now that the motion plus is standard. Still waiting for a good quality golf game - Tiger Woods did so well on the Wii, why is no one making one?

Nintendo is actually advertising the wiiu now, which is good, but I think its a bit too little too late now the ps4 and xbo steal the headlines. Its working, the new systems will have wiped out a year of wiiu numbers in a few months, there is a problem, its nothing that cant be fixed, they need new management severly.

I am of the opinion that the PS4 and XB1 will be good for Nintendo. For one,it raised the profile of gaming, creating a bit of hype that has been lacking. But also, I think some gamers will realize that the new gen does not really offer that much more in terms of graphics fidelity or gameplay experiences, and some of them will look towards the WiiU. I'm not convinced that MS and Sony will keep the hype after Christmas once their core market is satiated.

Really good writeup! I pretty much agree with everything you said, though in a desperate attempt to hold onto the excitement and magic of Nintendo (that is slowly dying) I picked one up at launch. I'm a bit bummed that I could have waited a year and gotten an incredible deal, but overall I've had a ton of fun with my Wii U. It's just like you said, it doesn't have to be a revolution to be a worthy purchase. Nintendo Land had some really amazing games (DK Crash Course deserves its own complete title!) and I'm enjoying the use of the gamepad, even if it's not fully utilized yet.

And as others have said, Pikmin 3 is really great if you get a chance to play it. I would play one of the first two if you haven't yet just to make sure you like the gameplay, though. But that game was pretty much why I got a Wii U early in the first place.

That'd be prett damn critical for an advertisment. Doubt you actually read it, since while having an overall great experience so far, I pointed out a decent amount of negative aspects for the console and games. I guess you can't even be somewhat positive about the Wii u on this board..

I don't think the Wii U is an issue for the average gamer I think the price is the real stumbling point because many don't consider it 'next-gen' even though specs aren't the only thing that define that.

I think it's poor sales are a combination of the price for some but also atrocious marketing, I'm from the U.K and barely anyone knows it exists.

Nintendo are bringing out games so when people do pick it up there will be lots to choose from.

I plan to get Wonderful 101 as soon as I can afford to. I would've got it when it released, otherwise. I played the demo, and while it's not perfect, it's certainly fresh and original.

Nintendo has GOT to start advertising their Wii U releases better. W101 deserved more sales than it's gotten.

@DevilRising

The demo nowhere near does the game justice. Although it does give you the elevator pitch on the gameplay, it doesn't even begin to go into the craziness that shows up in the rest of the game.

IMO it really is a must play for any gamer who's bored of the same old releases year on year.

Nice Writeup. The Wii U will be fine in the longrun. People forgot that Nintendo sold 65 million 1st party Gamecube games on an install base of 20 million while Sony has sold 90 million 1st Party PS3 games on an install base of 80 million, not to mention that Sony had way more individual flops. The average consumer has never cared about graphics. If they did then the Genesis,Saturn,N64,Gamecube,Game Boy Advance,Xbox, and Vita would have all sold much better. The gap between Wii / 360,PS3 is much smaller then the gap between Wii U / PS4.Xbone anyways and when people start seeing how great Mario Kart and games like it look, they are going to grow skeptical of the other companies.
