If we listen to the market, lets just have nothing but Call of Duty, Madden NFL, superhero movies, and Miley Cyrus music 24/7. Nothing else is worth exploring because it won't sell as much.

Your dead wrong, the industry doesn't have to be that way. Minecraft with notch has showed the way to succeeding even when being handicapped by budget.

That's what you're advocating, that companies should only make formulaic content pandering to "marketability".

That attitude if anything is what's killing this industry.

Nintendo has 6 billion dollars in the bank. They can afford to fund Bayonetta 2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 even if they all flop.

micrsoft and sony can do the samething it doesn't matter if 2 flops which it will you won't see anothere sequel.

Yes lets just have the industry make military shooters and nothing but.

I'm not asking them to make more shooters and BTW open world games are doing extremely well like GTA, skyrim, assassins creed, etc so there's no need to reduce gaming to 1 genre.

I'm only asking platinum games to start making something relevant.

You know honestly f**k GTA and Assassin's Creed. And Skyrim too (gasp!!!).

Dudebros can go suck it, Nintendo should offer something different, even if they move into making more core games again.

I'm sick and tired of every game being made for 16-year-old boys or the 30+ year old men who are still mentally 16. Gimme something different.

Bayonetta is wacky, so what. I say make it even crazier next time out.

Should Nintendo broaden their horizons? Sure. Should they copy what's popular on the market now? Hell no. It's an oversaturated market. The only concession I would make is to have a FPS franchise, but even there I would not touch any of the crap military tropes that the market pushes out. Go buy the James Bond license and make a spy FPS.

I'd rather Nintendo also embrace 90s style gaming (just as the Wii kinda capitalized on 80s style gaming) ... arcade racers and shooters and action games please.

NO bayonetta has very good gameplay, if it had they made a decent character and great art, ti would have got a sequel
on 360/ps3 but now they it's on wiiu cause nintedno funded it, and will sell much worse, and we will never see a sequel again, and it's a shame cause 60fps hack & slach games are disappearing

Then just go get the DMC reboot man. God of war ascension isn't bad either by any means. These are probably much better games than bayonetta.

I agree i don't even like bayonetta, i just can't enjoy the character or the art, i find it repulsive.

@bold

totally agree, this is why I will always be pissed of they let RARE go. They should have at least purchased the IPs. Imagine if those games were on Gamecube and Wii and now as Wii U launch games as extablished franchises.

Perfect Dark - could have been the Halo of Nintendo if done right.

KI - the more mature looking fighter on the system to compliment smash bros

Jet Force Gemini - This game had soo much potential. It was amazing for its time on N64. Imagine a HD full backed project.

Banjo - the game for all ages, but more importantly sold well to kids.

Blast Corps - your qwerky game

PLUS A FUCKLOAD of old IPs that could be resurrected every now and then to target those NES/SNES guys who would buy it jsut for the childhood memory of the game.

With these establish franchises in hand to keep the console from long droughts they could have been taking even bigger risks with more new software like your bayonettas etc.. to try and add more depth to the lineup.

And i still say that Nintendo may regret publishing it.

And I still disagree, as I'm sure it was always a purchase based on image, not any expectations of it selling multi-millions.

I don't disagree with that, but it was made at a time where it was all suposed to pull in a certain demographic and 3rd party support, a scheme that hasn't really worked out for them.

The third party support ship may have sailed for Wii U, but that makes Bayo 2 even more valuable as a complement to their existing lineup that offers something Nintendo's own games don't and doesn't tie up one of their internal teams.

Yet, when we see the sales it may turn out the money could have been spent better elsewhere. It obviously didn't do much to make them freinds in the desired demographic.

Better spent on what?

On something that wouldn't upset the people they are trying to attract

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

You realize that most of the gamers are 20 to 30 year olds, right ?

Nothing wrong with making a game crazier, just make it relevant. Zelda and the older DMCs were as wacky as hell and guess what ? They were relevant!

Again I'm not telling them to copy the the popular titles because they'll usually end up failing.

A spy FPS ? I would rather another stealth FPS but nintendo doesn't really have experience in making stealth games either so I doubt that'll end well.

GoldenEye sold 6+ million copies on the N64. If they want a beacon franchise for older gamers go with that. Bond is 100x cooler than any lame dudebros character (sit down, Master Chief, no woman is picking you over 007) and has worked well for Nintendo in the past, and doesn't have to be another lame military shooter.

If Nintendo wants to make Bayonetta 2 "revelant", then instruct Platinum Games to make the best action game period. This game should be the best in its genre, it should be a 90+ on Metacritic, it should be far better than the first game. If it's a wacky game, then don't fight it. Embrace it, make a wacky marketing campaign around it. If it's sexy, then dial that up that.

There's an oppurtunity there because no one is really making these types of action games anymore. So why not take advantage.

Same with X. It should be the best Japanese RPG. Metacritic 90+. Don't release it until it is of that quality (either game). There's an oppurtunity here too as the Japanese RPG genre has grown stale, Nintendo can take the crown in this genre type if X is an even better game than Xenoblade.

That's the best thing Nintendo can do, is reassert their brand as the one that has the best quality games while broadening out into different genres. Mario 3D World is a great way to start it, I would carry that same philosophy over to Zelda -- that doesn't release until it's the best Zelda game ever. If I'm Iwata I don't care if that means delaying it into 2015.

Even if certain games flop, the integrity of the brand is more important than any one game, any one console, any one hardware cycle even.

if you think Activision is letting go of the 007 property then you are out of your mind. Its gone let it go, be happy they put those games out at all.

Honestly you sound very salty, dudebro shooters are the popular thing now, deal with it. Every gen there is an uber popular genre, dont be mad that its not your favorite genre, it will go away just have patience

I don't think he can withstand the fact that creativity is mostly irrelevant.

Activision chose not to renew the Bond license. That's also why the studio Eurocom was basically shut down. Their rights expired at the end of 2012:

http://www.neowin.net/news/activision-loses-rights-to-james-bond-game-license

http://n4g.com/news/1175279/activision-loses-rights-to-james-bond-game-license

I'm not upset that certain genres are popular, but not everyone gives two craps about those games. If GTA sells 30 million copies, that means there's 100+ million 360/PS3 owners that don't give a crap either.

Not everything needs to be made from the same cookie cutter formula.
