Forums - Nintendo - Platinum Games Creative Director is Fed Up With Bayonetta 2 port begging

pokoko said:
Platinum Games had better become a satellite for Nintendo because the way they're treating their (former?) fanbase is unprofessional. I'm kind of glad I didn't like Bayonetta.

Hey, Platinum, you know some of these people bought your game, which was one of the worst ports ever made, and they're still loyal to you?

bolded: it doesn't get more professional than making the game for the one who pays.

Yes, you could have a re-imagining of Bayonetta 2 developed by a different developer and with a different subname. But, the version developed by Platinum belongs to Nintendo, and cant be ripped off directly even if only partialy. That list of code belongs to Nintendo. Not even SEGA can use it without their consent, as they dont own the code.

Yes, I agree with this. This is roughly what I've been saying (other than Nintendo straight up owning Bayonetta 2 in its entirety). Because Sega owns the IP, they could very well make a "Complete Edition" or "The Definitive Version" of Bayonetta 2. Updated graphics, more missions, extra characters, etc. Bayonetta 2 as it stands won't appear on other consoles because Ninty is publishing. I thought I was clear about that. But since Sega owns the IP, they can do something with Bayonetta 2 and put it on other consoles if they so choose.

And honestly, that's all I was trying to say in my original post. Some people just tried to grill me saying that for saying that Sega could bring Bayonetta 2 to other consoles in some form or another

Not exactly. They cant use any of the assets including code used by Platinum. They would have to completely remake the game under a new developer from the ground up (what you are sugesting is a port, wich they cant do cause they dont own the code). Since SEGA refused to do that in the first place with platinum, its unlikely they would finance a different developer to do it now.

And yet the game Metal Gear Solid 1, as we recognize it, is on more than one platform. Nintendo may own "The Twin Snakes" but then I just go back to my point about a possible Bayonetta 2: Complete Edition, if that were to ever happen. Konami may not be able to re-release Twin Snakes without Ninty's permission, but they can still re-release Metal Gear Solid (and they have, multiple times). Recognition that Twin Snakes is remake of MGS is a key factor here. Let's say Ninty owns Bayonetta 2. They don't own a possible "Complete Edition" remake, which Sega could release.

No because it won't generate enough cash returns for another investor should they throw more cash into it, remember that the 2nd game was canceled to start with, not to mention it then wouldn't be called a port, it'd be a complete remake.

But "Bayonetta 2", in some way, would end up on consoles that aren't from Nintendo. But please remember, my point was never that it would happen, or that it even should happen because it "makes sense" or whatever other nonsense. All I ever said was that it could happen since Sega owns the Bayonetta IP.

And to answer the post above this, no I don't believe it will be such a classic that it will be remade 13 years later. However, the Goldeneye example was strictly to answer the question "when has Nintendo ever given up the publishing rights to a game". They did it with Goldeneye, albeit a remake. But "Goldeneye 007" did end up on non Nintendo consoles, whether you like it or not. Anyway, and I repeat myself, I'm not saying B2 is gonna end up on other consoles. All I'm saying it that it can end up on other consoles. Look at all my posts in this thread. This is all I said. When I brought up Ninja Gaiden, because it was published by MS, it still ended up on other consoles. Goldeneye ended up on other consoles even though it was originally published by Nintendo. It is not written in stone "Bayonetta 2 can't ever ever ever in any way shape or form be played on a non Nintendo console"

Ok, my mistake on suggesting a port, but a remake is possible. But not feasible. That's the gist of what I'm trying to say. That's all. If tomorrow Sega said "I want Bayonetta 2 on PS4 and XBone", it could be done, with no legal trouble over who owns what. The major point I was trying to drive home was that if Sega wanted to, they could make Bayonetta 2 on something not Nintendo. I don't care how improbable that will be. Don't care unlikely it will be. All I said was that the possibility is out there.

Lets remember that the thread topic is Kamiya bitching about people port begging like little children, not whether or not it is realistic to expect any kind of Bayo 2 on other platforms when the decision is based on whether or not Nintendo allows it. With RE4, I expected it to not stay with NGC, because Mikami had no control over the actual process but Capcom did, in this case, it is clearly stated multiple times that it's up to Nintendo which means it's quiet assuring that you will not see Bayonetta 2 on the PS3, 360, Vita, X1, or the PS4 at this point in time especially if you count the fact that no other company was willing to fund the project other than Nintendo to start with. Again, let's be realistic, this will not be a classic like Golden Eye ever was, not even the owner of the IP, SEGA, had faith in it. So your expectations of it "can" end up elsewhere in another form is pure jibberish that has no coherence with the real world and is simply internet bantering.

I'm just not sure if they can actually use the Bayonetta 2 name, but yes that is the case. Though it would be completely hipocrit  of SEGA to do so, and the quality levels would be questionable cause Platinum is the best there is at making action games afterall. Maybe they could get Ninja Theory to butcher it western style. :P

If they wanted the Sequel so badly they should've each bought a few hundred more copies of it.

That's the people begging for a port.

YEah punish the consumer, its worked well for Nintendo.

stupid companies disrespect their consumers by not releasing games on nintendo platforms all the time. yet I never see sony/ms fans complaining about that.

The fans should be lucky they're even getting it.

Wow, the spin in some of these comments is amazing. A 3rd party gets help from Nintendo to get one of their games released so the 3rd party is said to be "screwing over it's loyal fan base". But, whenever Nintendo loses previous exclusives to Sony and/or Microsoft it's "good business sense". It must be nice to rationalize things in your head that way, but in reality, you can't have it both ways.

and in nintendo's case, there is no reason for those third party games not to be on nintendo systems. they're mostly multiplats, after all.
