I check this site often enough. Yes, to the second question as I'd like citations please. Doesn't have to be harvard or yale.

Honestly though. Calm down as you are seriously frusting at me man. I just haven't seen much of this. The overall doom for the industry yes but not specifically what you have in thread title.

Now...waiting for citations.

I'll say this, the gaming industry can live without nintendo, period.

Well... I doubt the gaming industry would die if Nintendo isn't #1... It might die if Nintendo leaves the gaming industry however...

And HD isn't killing the gaming industry... Its Endless amount of Microtransactions for $60 games, Shit ton of DLC and all these extra fees that people have to pay that they originally didn't and they don't have too much of an option to not pay them is whats killing the gaming industry...

Eventually people will realise... this is too much... and just stop buying games

But why? I mean yes it would be a more hollow industry, staples like Mario ect are a big part of gaming culture, but in terms of the business and what money is made?

It would benefit MS and Sony, and be of little consequence to third parties.

Nintendo is very independant, they can thrive on their own and they can die on their own, but it seems no matter what level of success or failure they're looking at it doesn't affect those around them.

Not many will admit this, but, yes, it is there. And, I do not even read many threads or spend much time here.

I believe the gaming industry is heading for a crash if it hasn't already happened. I don't think Nintendo is the only possible solution, but I believe they are actually doing something that might avert it. you want evidence of a crash, how about you look at some of the 50 odd studios that have closed down last generation.

Hell, even more have converted to iphone development. David Jaffe made a new studio to make browser games, and his old studio eat sleep play is making iphone games. Level 5 is also making iPhone games after their experiences with the PS3...

Not to mention creativity is being thrown down the toilet with a lot of these new games. Look at the indie games and compare it with the PS3 games. Tell me who has the more creative line-up of titles.

One of the first things you learn in a business class is "product differentiation is key, if you don't differentiate, then it turns into a price war" That's what it's become. A price war, and a pixel war. Tell me, if it wasn't for the Kinect, what difference would there be between the PS4 and the Xbox One? Almost none. Microsoft can buy more exclusives (KEYWORD IS BUY), Microsoft can BUY more advertisements. All Sony has is its brand reputation really.

this

I don't think Nintendo not leading/dying would affect me personally.

Would be a shame though, I doubt they would die even if they quit the console market. They can still make games on other platforms.

If Nintendo dies then gaming dies.
People will get sick of FPS and Racing games one day and they will not have anywhere to turn.

It's usually the more extreme Nintendo fans who say that. Many people think the industry will crash, or shrink because of all the bullcrap with have to deal with. Microtransactions, day 1 dlc, season passes, buggy games etc. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a $60 game to be complete at launch with no other hidden fees. Also less competition, and diversity, is not a good thing.
