I guess since this week Media Create has higher numbers they're the "better" tracker now.

Gotta love that Famitsu/MC flipflop week to week.

I consider Media Create to be the best tracker as far as hardware is concerned, and Famitsu to be the best tracker as far as software is concerned. Media Create does not take into consideration something like this:

Interesting how much higher Pokemon XY happens to be tracking on MC. This isn't the first time either.

It`s amazing how the new version of DQ X for Wii U sells this much, when the original game is at 97.377 and was released back in March.

This new version must be really special.

Every week Super Mario 3D looks less like a flop.

The internet was mistaken, who would say.

Very good for Nintendo overall. GT6 not as good as GT5 launch sales but selling 200k is not exactly a flop. Not great either TBH.

Mario has had an even better week than last. I expect that game to be in the top ten for a few more weeks yet. Never underestimate the legs of that little fella.

I believe wii u will now rule home consoles in japan til the PS4 arrives.

So can we go with Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy: Big Bang / Super Bomba? :/ sorry I had to. :B

Well, let's look at it this way: look at how many entries released in sequence. That is a lot of titles released for one series. Also, is Go Galaxy a nickname for Go 3? Maybe players were confused about the title?

I suspect the underlined in the major problem here.  It's a recurring problem for Level-5.  They find a franchise/formula that works; promote it to oblivion with cross-media stuff (animes; merchandise etc.) pump out as many games as possible in a short amount of time and sales eventually drop off a cliff (see also: Professor Layton; Little Battlers).

Luckily, they've stumbled upon some replacement series recently (Youkai Watch/Fantasy Life), but their president has already recently spoken about the next entries in those series coming out soon, so I can only see them ending with a similar fate.  At least in the short term they should grow somewhat ("short term" being the next 2-3 entries, possibly).

I don't think 91k for Inazuma is a massive failure, but it's certainly a wake up call that the series has peaked and they should probably move on.

Interesting.

Also, I can't wait for people who haven't been following COMG to see next week's MC/Famitsu chart. It's gonna be fun.

I agree. it's gonna be over 700k of fun.

You seem to think the Japanese holiday season starts when the western holiday season starts? Shops in Japan will close on dec 29 this year and stay closed for the following 7 days. However, i believe you hope i'm right and wouldn't mind eating crow if i am:)

Do you have a source for that?  Just genuinely interested.  Because first week of January is normally a big week in Japanese gaming industry where all hardware sales shoot wayyyyy up as people spend their holiday money.  Would be extremely odd to see that not happening this year.

that's because they have a tradition of giving money to children as a new year gift. about a week after new year, the kids spend that money and video games get a boost.

Week ending in dec 22, is very likely to be bigger than the week ending in dec 29. And, your numbers are way too high.

..or we can go for a more comparable year. For example a year with the week ending DECEMBER 30th. Therefore i will cherrypick 2007. It compares nicely with the week ending DECEMBER 29th, no? Then again 2012 ended on DECEMBER 30th, so my argument may not be valid:p

http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/39439/Japan/

As you can see; the Wii had a great week ending dec 30th 2007 with a +47 sales increase from the previous week. Also no new high profile game was released that week for the system.

Wii 249,447 (+47%)
