BTW I did my own tests last week in a GAF thread (I think I was the only to show real results).

Pictures

Internal: 200-400k JPEG
After upload to Twitter: 50-100k JPEG

Sto the twitter did a hell of compression over the original PS4 picture you see on PS4 but the PS4 picture is not good enought yet... needs some lossless PNG option (2-4MB pictures).

We needs more sharing services too.

Video

Internal: 8 Mbps (1MB/s) bitrate
After upload to Facebook: I can't check but the video on PS4 plays with way better quality than Facebook (Facebook again did a hell of compression over the original)

8Mbps bitrate is not bad.. it is half of most Blu-ray movies quality but the lack of options to share and the heavly compression of Facebook is killing the video on web... I don't expect YouTube to solve that because it have low quality videos too like Facebook.

We need some high-definition sharing service or the hability to export the videos to PC (already planeed to future update).

Sony needs to give us options to record 1080p and 60fps videos too.

So far it is a good start... needs to improve.

I get 650kb jpg pictures from AC4. You can send them to a PS Vita as a mail attachment, maybe you can save the original via that route?A friend just bought a Vita and I send him some screenshots, forgot to ask him if he can save them.

8 mbps real time encoded is not half blu-ray lol. Blu-ray runs at 24 mbps average, upto 40 mbps in heavy action scenes, multi pass encoded for best results. My HD video camera records in 24mbps, looks good, but blu-ray still looks a lot better.

The highest quality HD you tube video I've seen is 5.6mbps (Download via ps3youtube and you can see the average bitrate) I'm assuming they use multi pass encoding and variable bitrates so that should be good enough for an 8mbps real time encoded stream. Ofcourse I've also seen 1.5mbps encoded 1080p Youtube videos, quality varies a lot. Plus Youtube usually downgrades my videos to 720p, even though I upload in 10mbps 1080p.

It would be a great start if they allow you to copy the picture and video files to a thumbstick.

My tests was with RESOGUN... it is darker game so the JPG is small

I just looked at a list of bitrate of movies in Blu-ray forum... most uses 16mbps avg... so I said halt of the Blu-ray quality... or course there are exceptions with way better bitrate... I think 8mbps for PS4 really good (can be better but it is not bad at all... Xbone bitrate is 2-3mbps).

I don't have a Vita to make these tests... I think we need a option to export to PenDrive/ExternalHDD.

More services will be good too... Facebook, Twitter, USteam, Twitch are little for now... YouTube and others needs to be added.

You mean a list like this?
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=3338

16 is at the lower end and more exception then rule. It's variable bitrate anyway, so a title like 2001 with avg 13.4 mbps still looks stunning since most of the movie is static or slow moving scenes, it's the ability to temporarily ramp it up to 40mbps that gives it a consistent quality during action scenes.
8mbps for real time encoding of 60 fps twitch gameplay is pretty low. Still pretty good for a console, with a decent h.264 encoder it should be able to match 15mbps mpeg2 cable HDTV quality, or double DVD quality.

Just let me get my hands on the original file to play around with in Pinnaccle studio.

Yeap... that was the list... you can see half of the titles are less than 20mbps... seems like the exceptions are the only over 30mbps (there are few).

The 8mbps is the bitrate for share... not streaming... and it is 30fps... I think the quality is good for a console... if they can increase to 16mpbs it will be fine even with 60fps.

I see most in the 20 range :p Anyway it's apples and oranges, realtime fixed bitrate vs multi pass variable bit rate encoding.

But yes 8mbps is damn good quality for consoles, better then any current HD Youtube video.
60fps would be nice, raw screenshots, and instant screenhots. I've set the share button to screenshot mode, but there is still a delay between pressing the button and the screenshot being taken. It's hard to time it right.

If you want the right moment you can open the last video recorded, play it and pause where you need to take the screenshot... it is a hard work but works.

What codec and setting do they use for videos?

I didn't have this info because you can't remove the video from PS4 right now... the bitrate was easy because I just made the math with the length and size of the video recorded... all videos I did have a similar bitrate ~8mbps (some 7.9mbps or close).

The format is h.264 for sure.

Yeah I thought about that. But taking screenshots from a video stream is not ideal.
I actually was going to try that last night, but got caught up in the gameplay. Those legendary ships in AC4 are frigging hard. Seems they have rocket propulsion the way they can ram you.
