Console wars are stupid. There's no reason to bash other consoles. All you have to do is ignore it and play the console you like. Not everyone is going to like your favorite console. This gen looks like It's going to be about resolution. Fanboys will be firing their resoguns. This is a good channel that talks about console wars and other gaming related things.

Question: Should people not feel emotional about brands?

Is it wrong for a person to feel emotionally attached to Apple's brand? How about Johnson & Johnson? Or hell, I would argue that the Red Heart Association, Livestrong, etc are brands too.

How about negative emotion? BP for example.

I guess my point is that attacking fanboyism is really like attacking human nature too. I think that to demand that people not have emotional feelings towards brands is impossible. We're not robots. We're not perfectly rational people.

If we're going to define fanboyism as letting those emotions dictate what you say and act obnoxiously, yeah I'm on board. But then it's not really the "fan" part that's bad, but the "boyism" that is.

Acting childishly, for whatever reason is bad.
But having emotional feelings toward a brand isn't bad. It's human. And it's arrogant and dishonest to look down on others for being human.

I love them!

I find it amusing to get people riled up. You have to be able to take as much as you give, though. Nothing is worse than some pasty, thin-skinned, cerebral pygmy with a hideous scar on his upper lip from a botched cleft palate surgery that goes running to a mod everytime someone with an opposing viewpoint replies to one of their posts.

Its fun, entertaining and funny as hell until someone goes overboard... Its fine to have loyalty towards a brand but if you are blindly following them and praising them even at their worst decisions...

Its ok to praise a company for being innovative but not ok if they are releasing broken/unfinished/not ready products

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

It used to be simple back in the day...

Kids could only have/afford 1 console and would argue in school, and later on the internet in order to justify their purchase. While still primitive, one can fully understand this type of a person and why they would fight for a specific console. Its the console card they were dealt so they may as well stick to it and champion it. Hell, I was like this at one point.

However a new type of console fanboy emerged somewhere along the line. This person pledged their loyalty to a specific brand and started championing everything a specific console manufacturer does regardless of games or his actual gaming preferences. This type of fanboy simply enjoys arguing, possibly more than gaming and is well informed so they are able to spin information in many ways to fight the good fight.

When dealing with people on forums, its usually good to keep this in mind in order not to waste time arguing with professional arguers.

Would there even be VGChartz if there wasn't such a thing as console wars?

That's game of thrones reality there.

Console wars make a lot more sense than a lot of other things people fight over or put emotion behind. Many people are die hards for sports teams that whether they win or loose really has no effect on them.

In the console wars, if your team wins it means more content, and more experiences in the environment you prefer to play in. Sure you always have the option of buying every game player under the sun, but most people can not justify a purchase of a device for just a couple of games.

I have every console back to 1990 sans the WiiU and XBO, plus PC, and Android, but that is just because I love games. It sucks that most of my friends are stuck with just one console so even if they are into different games they can only play what they have.

Preferably, the industry would get together and push a hardware standard like the movie and music industry have done. Until then though, I will always tell people looking for one player to get PlayStation.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
