Forums - Gaming - IGN ''What Sony's '4.2 Million PS4s Sold' Figure Actually Means"

Pains me that they can't do decent research. Just because Nintendo announced their financials in October doesn't mean they INCLUDE October, how the hell do they not know this??!!

to be fair, they did "estimate" WiiU sales to be as high as 5.2 million in the same timeframe. which seem pretty close

Thanks for upload, So when Sony says it has sold 4.2 million to retailers we can pretty much say that 4.2 million has been sold to customers.

So next week the PS4 should only sell 100k since the chartz are one week behind.

They mentioned 4.2 million sell through to customers. We don't know how much has been shipped.

Ah k yeah I was meaning demand is so hot its pretty much 1:1 each shipped is sold instantly.

It's simply amazing how the PS4 has sold so much with one OK exclusive and a Bad exclusive. Guess they just wanted to play slightly better multi platforms.

People only buy consoles for what's currently available?

For quite some time shipped=sold unless they include what is still on the ships and unopen on ebay/craiglist (well that was sold but you understand)... so for any mean shipped=sold... and if we consider X360/PS3 it would be shipped=sold-0.5M or something like that.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I think it's totally within the realm of reason to believe that Wii U has sold around over just over 5 million units by the end of 2013. I also find it to be completely within the realm of reasonable expectations that those sales should get another boost in a few months when Mario Kart 8 launches. Wii U will be fine, and isn't in the "serious trouble" that they posit.

Honestly, considering how shitty it sold for much of 2013, how it recovered within the last 3-4 months is rather impressive.

You guessed wrong.

There are many reasons to owning a console right away. First you have games from a new generation, which is something that doesn't happen that often, then you get prettier/better/bigger games. And don't forget consoles are investments in your gaming future. New games are released monthly, so not everyone has to wait.

The 4.2m is as of 28th December. So actually it's almost 100k undertracked.
