Yes i had to do it, i skipped 38mil (well i had no choice!) and we are celebrating 2 things!

1. 39mil Sold which means Handhelds are Still Dead and Nintendo is doomed

2. The calm before 40mil next week

2DS and all the crazy XL bundles out there are causing 3DS sales explosion this holiday. 3DS is definitely reaching, if not already at, it's peak sales.

It's behind by about 10 million. Not too shabby. We'll see where it is after the Holidays -- the gap should be a bit smaller for a minute.

Congrats to the 3DS, truly an amazing system and 2013's best console. (Yes, I consider handhelds equal to consoles).

Here's to 2014 bringing us even more amazing titles!

Not sure how specifically you mean "already at." Sales are always higher than Black Friday the week of Christmas. This week is far from the 3DS's peak -- it will probably be over 2 million the week ending the 28th.

This momentum is going to carry it very well in the first half of 2014, too, especially in the West.
