Forums - Microsoft - Edge Article on the Xbox One Interface and OS

Edge has posted this article on the X1s Interface and OS on their website

http://www.edge-online.com/features/xbox-why-the-baffling-incompetence-of-the-xbox-one-interface/

Taken from the Article:

"It looks like an improvement. And as long as you aren’t actually using it, it is."

"Mindful of its prior issues updating the functionality of Xbox 360, Microsoft has elected to make almost every system function an app. This might make more sense from a development point of view, enabling more rapid updates – and for Microsoft’s sake, let’s hope so – but Xbox One’s debut user experience is stuttering, clunky, and a serious challenge to Xbox Live’s long-held status as the premier console service. Bluntly, they take too long to load, don’t offer the functionality that Xbox Live was built on, and are, inexplicably, badly handled by the OS."

"This shambling, zomboid clunkiness permeates the entire interface. You have to go into the Games & Apps list to view downloads. Missed game invitations aren’t stored, but lost forever. You can’t view or manage storage, a spectacularly poor decision given that the 500GB hard drive will be approaching capacity by March. The overall sense is of a design handed over to the team behind the similarly unloved Windows 8 interface, rather than anybody who has used an Xbox 360 regularly or had any familiarity with its strengths."

Before anyone asks, yes I found this on Neogaf, I'm a horrible person.

Editted the link. So the article is false? Ok it did seem kinda weird how allegedly you aren't able to delete your stuff.

Not entirely sure that's what he said.

You can delete your games from dashboard from what I have been told, but you cannot manage your data.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

It sounds like he just hates everything related to Windows 8. I've seen videos of the interface, and while I don't particularly care for the EVERYTHING IN YO FACE NAOW! layout, it seemed pretty good functionality wise.

EDIT: Okay, I looked at a few more vieos. It's not that good. Just watching this latest video on IGN, I could definitely see myself getting annoyed with the interface. The voice commands don't seem that fast and a little slow compared to just using the controller as well.

They're just verbalizing their preference. Some people don't like the X1 UI, nothing to get defensive over.

Having been using the X1 for some time now I can safely say that article is pretty untrue. It is not slow or clunky in the least (apps take about 3-5 seconds to load which is perfectly fine...and it instant switches if you already have the app open). Overall it's a big improvement over the 360 dashboard for simplicity and being streamlined.

There are a few things that it could use but that's what updates are for.

Oh ok, I misunderstood what he wrote then, I thought not being able to manage storage meant not being able to delete games. But Kowenicki already explained that you can so I get it now.

coming in an update.

like many things for PS4 and Xbox one.

Understood, but just because something is said to be on it's way in an update does not mean it cannot be mentioned and complained about. This article is the man's complaints about the XBone UI in it's current state. You can't get mad because that issue has been aknowledged and they say they are working on and will release at a future date.

Do they have an article about the PS4 interface and OS? I would expect that to complain about the DLC issue where some DLC you download cannot be retrieved if you accidentally delete it. Mainly goes for preorder DLC not found on the PSNStore.

It is getting fixed, but as of right now it is in fact an issue and by all means should be mentioned in articles that show faults.

However, this man does seem to dislike Windows 8, which is probably why he also dislikes the XBone interface.

Its a rant.  Journalists should be more professional.

It's their opinion on the matter, isn't that what "video game Journalists" do?  Give their opinions, like reviews feedback etc. Just because you don't like the material your being defensive over it. Like I said before "They're just verbalizing their preference." Isn't that allowed?
