Forums - Nintendo - Former Rare staffer: "Nintendo were often quite envious of us"

Maybe the desire from both Rare and Nintendo to best each other is what made their N64 games so good.

Where's your Rare now?

Impossible for two reasons;

1: No one makes better games than Nintendo, or games that are equally good.

2: Nintendo doesn't care about textures, that's the concern of the stupidheads that play other consoles.

Rare did some amazing work on the N64, Goldeneye is by far the best and most local multiplayer fun I ever had on a console along with Turok and Mario Kart 64. The N64 was a magnificent console and had some amazing games. I still have mine and in working condition!

Amen.

I miss Rare, and I miss the days of the Nintendo 64. So many amazing games. It filled my childhood with so much happiness and wonder.

Rare did some good things with N64 tech, though i don't know about that rumor. It's obvious OoT went through a few revisions before the final product, if you look back to the old N64 Zelda tech demo of Link vs Dark Link (where Dark Link looked a lot like Metal Mario), and the fact that originally, OoT was set entirely in Zelda's castle like Mario 64 in Peach's Castle (an artifact which no doubt inspired the layout of OoT's final dungeon). Many revisions were made, whatever Rare was doing with Banjo Kazooie at the time

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I wish nintendo owned rare instead of microsoft.

I happen to agree with point 1 above, but what really stands out is your utter inability to understand the sarcasm in the quoted post. How do you go through life without the ability to pick up on the intent in a post that is so utterly obvious?

Yes and no. It's a sort of jab but simultaneously I think it rings somewhat true. At least if one considers continuity and average quality of published titles and the fact thay they've been at it for so long. Mind you, they're not my favorite developer but I'd be hard pressed to say that my favorite is technically better, due to the above mentioned factors.

I'm perfectly able to objectively admire someones work despite not putting their efforts at the top of my wishlist, in the same way I can admire and appreciate people who have differing opinions to mine but present them in a great way or a salesman that is terrific at his job despite not selling something I like (Steve Jobs is one example).

No it has nothing to do with my profile picture,IMO playstation and nintendo have the best games but saying no one can make better games than nintendo that are equally good wheter he was joking or not is just ridiculous and not true.
