Forums - Microsoft - Saw this, kinda cool...

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/12/02/retail-xbox-ones-can-access-developer-tools

So, basically you can already access the developer side of the X1, the system isn´t really ready for it yet. I know, I know, it has been revealed a long time ago that every X1 can be used as a developer tool, but the reality of it is just soo cool!

What potential do you see in X1 as the main console for indie developers in the coming years?

IGN has taken the page down, but it is still a cool feature.

I still don't know how full featured it will be - will we get Project Spark - or something more? Microsoft is actually really generous about giving free training to people that want to learn their systems.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!

Saw it on Eurogamer

Don't try this at home is the official message for now.

"Changing the settings in this menu is only intended for developers for Xbox One, and this alone does not turn the console into a development kit. We strongly advise consumers against changing these settings as it could result in their Xbox One becoming unusable. Customers who have put their consoles into this developer setting can revert by restoring factory defaults under Settings / System, select Restore Factory Defaults."

I prefer to develop games on a PC, but I guess it's a nice feature for someone. I doubt that big developers will leave PC to develop on a X1 but as Puppyroach said this might be fun for indie developers.

Still, for what reason would you choose to develop on a X1 instead of a PC?

PC is easier to develop for, decades worth of tools and information that is available to assist in such an endevour.

Plus you can get some good amounts of free advertising from the likes of Humble Bundle and Steam Greenlight.
Not that it matters, porting between the two platforms isn't something that would take months to achieve anyway.

Why not Both?

DirectX is on the Xbox One and the PC.  You could develop for the Xbox One, then lower down the game for the PC as most people will not have a compairble system on PC for yet a few more years.  (according to Steam's numbers.)

Then flip it when Windows 9 comes out - which is probably still a ways away.

Because there is no reason to do so. For a small indie developer it would be easier to go with a PC, and for a big company it would be insane to switch from PC, because on a PC you will have more tools than you could ever want.

This is why I asked my question in the first place. Because I wonder who will actually be using this to develop their games. Is anyone in this forum a game developer and are concidering to develop soley on the X1, then I would like to know why.

But I would like to point out that I am not saying that it's bad in any way that Microsoft offers this, it's very nice actually. If anyone had that impression of me.

Actually, Microsoft wants you to develop for the PC, Xbox and Windows Phone all at the same time. I don't think you realize how similar Xbox and PC are, and their plan is to make the 3 very similar in the future.

Say it cost you 20% more to develop for both PC and Xbox,  but you increase your sales by 35%, then it's a bonus.  Plus, they more more likely to reward you with more promotion.

Well I do work for them so I know how we are pushed to integrate the systems with each other. But we have no directives to develop on separate systems, which would be very unwise.

So I am curious to whom will be using this. I will be using what my company tells me to use, which is a PC.
