That's because you are comparing to Galaxy 2, which is inferior to the original SMG ;)

No, is not

Galaxy's hub, Rosalina story and soundtrack are superiors to Galaxy's 2 counterparts. The Mario ship is boring compared to the comet, the 2-3 cutscenes in first one are good and epic, while Galaxy 2 doesn't have any one interesting.

Final boss is better in the first one. There's only two thigns galaxy 2 is superior: difficulty and post game (green stars vs luigi). Nothing else.

I too fall on the side of "SMG1 was better".

Besides being more groundbreaking and "wow" for its time, I found its music and visuals and the resulting atmosphere more compelling.

Its celestial backdrops and some of its lonelier tracks evoked a really haunting beauty that Galaxy 2 with its blue skies and more sugary music didn't match.

Galaxy 2 is still easily the #2 game of the gen, but Galaxy 1 is better.

Hmmm, Japanime based jrpg sells better in Japan than Mario which has always sold better in the west?

This is news. Gotcha.

100% completion after the game ran for 29:38 hours, according to the Wii U playlog. 182 deaths, but there's a good dozen unaccounted ones, because I just quit without saving a few times. About 20 deaths from Rosalina getting out of her bubble for one or the other reason and falling to death/being touched to death. 508 extra lives left, so you don't have to max out the count to get the fifth star on your save file.

You guys suck. That is all.

Nah. We don't suck. You're the one with no life. =P

Then what to do?

Don't know, but the whole "save Peach" thing has gotten old already. If EAD can be creative with level designs, I'm sure they can come up with something else for the little plot Mario games usually have. At least they tried something new with 3D World, and they could try something else for the next game, maybe without those pixie fairies.

I don't have the game. I wasn't planning on buying it, but all my friends talk about how great the game is. I'll probably snag or my birthday next week.

One of the in game sounds, sounds like getting an achievement on psn.

I knew Nintendo had something going on when they released Super Mario 3D Land. From there I wanted DLC for the game up until just another full blown sequel and we got it. I love this game far more than Galaxy because you can have fun without even trying. The stages are variant and interesting enough to make you want to go back. When I played Galaxy, I dreaded going back to galaxies such as "Battle Rock" and "Space Junk". With this new game style I just can't stop playing it. I've played 3D Land for 300 Hours! And galaxy for only 30. But hey, that's just me. I hope they do one more in the future and I'd be happy.

My enthusiasm dropped to an all-time low when I discovered that I have to finish every single level with every character to get all stamps. This makes the unlockable Rosalina a really bad thing, because she's a fifth character! The game counts a level as completed as long as a character has grabbed on to the flagpole, so dragging a bubble along shortens the process (damn time limit to grab the flagpole after the first character has touched it), but there's the occasional annoying situation that the dragged character gets out of their bubble and dies, thus increasing the death count on my file. Multiplayer would of course be a better option, but finding people who have enough dedication and the skill to go through the later levels isn't easy. I would have to clear those levels mostly or all by myself in any case.

Yes, all characters play differently, but it's not that much of a difference. Attaining a complete file is more a grind, rather than fun.

Do you need that stamp to get to Champion Road? If that's the prereq, fuck that.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Super Mario 3D World is like going to an amusement park full of unique rides. Each one is just long enough to give you a thrill and then it's on to the next one. There's even a couple of haunted fun houses. Of course, like any amusement park, you're probably going to have to kill at some point.
