I started referring to them as current gen on 11/15.

Personally, I think that next gen consoles become the current gen when it seems normal that a gamer would have one. While admittedly my personal network of "hardcore" gamers is small, I really dont know too many people with a PS4 or X1. I would give it maybe a year or two before the next gen becomes the current gen.

It's gonna be next gen while ps3 and x360 get the same multiplats and ps4 and xbone.

Once those are phased out by 2015, we then embrace the current gen.

Next battlefield and cod, for the next 2 years, are still going to be on ps3 and x360.

It's hard to define an exact date as to when they transition from next-gen to current gen, but as of now I consider the 3DS, Vita, Wii U, PS4, and XBONE current gen consoles. Been doing so for a while with the handhelds actually.

But for someone that only owns a PS2, isn't PS3 next-gen for them? And for some poor bastard with a Coleco Telstar, isn't ColecoVision still next generation for them?

But in general I'd say that it's okay to call the newest generation for next-gen the first few years, until they become more well known/established on the market.

I'm with you Aielyn! Next gen is now current gen and the previous current gen is now last gen which probably makes the even more last gen the now old gen... right?

I think people are confusing what gen we are in with how we refer to the consoles. The former is always nebulous, the latter is not.

WiiU, PS4 and XB1 are currently available, therefore are current gen, their predecessors despite their popularity are last gen.

The PS4 and Xbone are still hot items. My mall has Microsoft written all over it right now, but the PS4 is still outselling it. The buzz is that they are next gen because they are and people want to see the graphics and fidelity.
