Forums - Gaming - IGN Reviews: PS4 vs Xbox One

I also agree that a media device console will win this gen. People want more then just the best gaming. That's why Netflix on Sony platforms is the number 1 platform to use for that service. That's why mp3 and video streaming is getting patched in the PS4. That's why PS4 has the best browser of the 3 consoles. There is plenty of media options for that console.

The only difference in "media" is the hdmi pass through so I can watch TV or snap in TV ( with the annoying 2 audios trying to play over one another) Also, as reviews have stated, the snap feature doesn't always work consistently. (especially in a noise filled environment) It's easier just to press the button and go to where you want at times.

The whole PS4 has no media or multitasking argument is an absolute joke facilitated by MS fans in order to justify their purchase of an inferior gaming console.

Not even the same. Xbox One is a much better media box. Far more cohesive. Snap feature has never failed yet. I do want to try the PS4 browser though. On Xbox One VGChartz takes 4 secondes to load. On PS4 it must take like 1-2 seconds. The Xbox One browser is just as fast as my PC. One of the best browsers Ive ever used.

From what I've seen the snapping and voice commands don't work too well on the XBO. That's something that could be patched in the future but it seems strange those were listed as positives.

Because if set up properly, they work 95% of the time. So much better than previous Kinect.

IGN are entitled to their opinion. Everyone is.

I disagree. I dont want just a games console anymore. What I have is way to good to trade for a PS4. No contest. I still believe and out and out console wont sell the most this gen. It will be a media device that does.

The PS4 doesnt do media?? Odd, i was just playing BF4, then multi-tasked to netflix, works great...PS4 has all the media featrues of x1 (Or will once dlan gets patched).

All x1 has is cable pass thru, which is a useless feature. I already have cable.

Xbox One already has twice the apps in the uk over PS4. At launch. It has the ability to multi task more programs/apps/games at the same time. Also you say the cable pass through is uselss. I can recieve a Skype call whilst watching Sky 1. Or a game invite wjilst watching Sky Sports F1 HD. Or I can snap in Internet Explorer and order an item whilst watching the advert I saw the item on. I can snap in a game guide whilst lost on a particular level. I can control the volume of my TV, The menu of my TV and even switch the TV on/off when my Xbox switches on and off all with Voice.

The multitasking of PS4 isnt in the same league as Xbox 1. I can stop a game, put in another game and it will leave off exactly where I was 5 days ago. It remebers. I can pin my faveourite apps to my desktop. The PS4 is a good games machine. But its multimedia functions are far less. I can also add channels to the One Guide like specific Netflix watches, Lovefilm, Skydrive photos or videos all in the One guide alongside TV channels. Its a far more cohesive and personalized entertainment experience. And one the PS4 doesnt come close to.

You don;t even know what you are talking about..Ps4 can multi-task between games and apps, and it is fast and responsive........ I can Switch to PS4's much faster browser on PS4 as well, maybe get your facts straight.

Ps4 has many mroe apps coming, they are already on psr with x1 in apps and more are coming.

The multi-yasking in X1 is not leagues better. it works fast and the same on PS4..Why do you need to watch TV and play a game at the same time?? Dumb waste of resources.

snap is a uselesss feature taking resources away from a consoles main purpose. I can already multi-task with PS4 and the Os is lightining fast. I can already watch cable.

Many people use PVR's today, making the x1's cable already useless. There are already better media devices on the market, so why buy an x1 for media?? There is already a superior gaming machine out and it's cheaper, that does all the media functions anyone will ever need.

ms is guilty of wasting resources and money on things people simply don't need or want. In this day where everyone has inter connected phones, tablet, devices, snap is a pointless resource hog. Voice can be done with a mic, and there are no games making kinect even desierable.. Meaning it is 100 more for voice that diesn't work all the time, or even replace something that can already be done more accuratlry.

Many apps don;'t even work well with snap and it's something I can do in 1 second os PS4 with a button press. The ps4 browser is 5 times faster then x1.....google it, the x1 browser is slow. Dem facts. They browsers were tested by numerous sites.

So far having now bought them both I have to say the PS4 UI is just horrific. It is so plain and boring. Sure what matters is the games but it would of been nice to have seen Sony do something a bit more flashy with it.

That's contrary to pretty much every review..The ps4 UI is outstanding, fast, responsive, everything is easy to find and just a click or two away. Well organized.

Couldn't disagree more. Firstly it is non customabale meaning my UI and yours looks exactly the same. There are no themes, no ways to change colours or move icons. It has just two rows with the first being user stuff i.e trophies, psn store and settings etc and the second being the apps and games. To say that is outstanding is just laughable considering what other devices UI's look like. It is fast and moves from one tile to the next very smooth. But when there is nothing there is that really a compliment? Take the Wii U or Xbox One UI. Those things look miles better and have a shit load more content/things to do as'well.

In comparison to the 360, PS3, Xbox One and Wii U the PS4 interface IN MY OPINION is by far the worst looking. Like I said it is about the games but would have been nice if Sony did something different with it. Right now I would say even my Vita's UI looks more appealing.

Themes and clours have ZERO to do with useablity...and that will come later. Pretty much irrelevant. There is nothng wrong with the UI and most loved it AGAIN see reviews0 everything is easy to find and in a logical place, it also looks very nice. The drop down menu on each gam,e and area loioks outstanding. All info you need in 1 spot Agree to disagree.

Sorry bud but like you say will have to agree to disagree. In the era of smart technology i.e Phones, Tablets, advanced desktops, handheld consoles (3DS/Vita) which all enable you to custom how your home page looks then going to something that doesn't let you change anything is a step backwards. Especially when you consider you could change things and make it more personal on the PS3. The X1 is just as fast as the PS4 in regards to the interface and I can fully custom it to my liking. I honestly cannot see how you would think having less personalisation from the previous console = good because it moves faster.

Based on potential, more exclusives, current specs of the machines PS4 has the edge over the XBox One. The launch games for both systems were disappointing, no real big exclusive games were launched on either system. The best games are multi-platform and they look better on the PS4.

So far: 8.2/10 for PS4 and 7.8/10 for XBox One are fair scores, on what has been delivered and what will be on offer in the future. XBox One has fewer exclusives games than the PS4, PS4 has superior graphics and processing power than the XBox One.

IGN jumping on the PS4 ship. This gon get interesting

Microsoft has always had a better financial relationship with IGN, but IGN naturally gravitates to Sony because of their products.
