The only time Rol rips into Nintendo and he's completely wrong.
"The Wii U is a piece of trash. NSMBU didn't fail, it's that the system itself is so ill-conceived that it has no long term future, regardless of what games Nintendo releases for it."
Poor Wii U, although it's only been out for a year I'm starting to think that it is the next Gamecube (Which is a good thing and bad thing).

A home console/handheld hybrid would kill them, because it combines disadvantages while removing advantages. The only actual positive would be that one system means lower chances for software droughts, but that's completely overshadowed by all the bad things that come with it. The idea is usually suggested by people who view Nintendo's home consoles as outright poison that can't be continued, but if you mix food (handhelds) with poison, what's the result? |
So, they must once again look at the NES and Wii and understand why those consoles were so successful...or I wonder if they do understand but want to, let´s say, force some other 'philosophies' on customers in hopes they´ll accept them.
It makes me wonder, though... How bad would the Wii U sales have been if New Super Mario Bros. U wasn't a launch title?
it's not the wiiu fault. core gamers have left the wii and moved to 360/ps3, every big third party game has established a home base on the xbox/playstation brand, they basically missed out on an entire 7th gen of third party games and online gaming. and the console market biggest franchises and best sellers are third party games and online games. the nintendo console market has been in decline for a long time. the wii was just very succesful fad that over now, nintendo goes back into its declining market share on console.

I believe NSMBU was probably the only thing keeping the system from being completely dead since launch, so think of something that´s worse than bad..like, waaaaaaaaaaay worse. Not pretty at all.
I never derided it. I always said it was a great game. I like NSMBWii better overall, but NSMBU is a fine piece of software.
Well I never said any of that! Infact I've always said the reason the Wii U sold as much was because of NSMBU. The thing is, NSMBU is just one game, and it had NSMB2 release a few months before, that no doubt hindered it's system selling potential. The real killer though was the massive drought killing all momemtum. It's gonna take a while to reclaim that momentum, and SM3DW is just another step in the right direction.
