The Lego Movie 3D short review:

I saw it in IMAX imitation, but during 2014 & beyond the American theaters have a different 3D format for each different size cinema screen, so the 3D was not ridiculously strong.

The movie does every different thing a Lego Movie can do.

I guess I would rate the movie no lower then a 8.8.

The movie still could have been more better, but that's true about almost all Hollywood movies upon their release.

I wish the movie explored a lot more different Lego lands.

But altogether it's a movie easily worth your time.

It has great stories & plots & characters.

And the movie might have been 100% CGI I might add.

Like "I, Frankenstein 3D", The Lego Movie 3D" is also reviewed as a great movie by Rottan Tomatoes. And you can take those to the bank.

If you've seen "300: Rise of an Empire" then please post.

This is madness. THIS IS SPARTA

Giving a shout out to "Antboy" releases April 16, 2014:

Heres an interesting looking movie called "Jinn" releases April 4, 2014:

I finally went to see realD3D, didn't convince me, this was my review of Lego 3D:

We just got back from The lego movie 3D, our first son's first movie experience. He loved it, didn't move an inch during the whole movie. It was a good movie, a lot of fun, highly recommended. I'm glad they added 80's space guy for this old dad to have something to relate too :p

The cinema experience wasn't that great however after 12 year absence. The screen is bigger, yet fixed 16:9 is a bit odd, it can't go wider for 2.35:1. Maybe in a different auditorium or do you get black bars nowadays....
Picture quality was sub par, very low res, I could easily see all the pixels. The color was off too, especially with the glasses on. 3D made everything seem smaller, kind of a waste of that huge screen. It was pretty annoying too with all the out of focus dof effects in the movie. My wife noticed that too, 'Is it just me or was most of the movie out of focus' I like to look around the sets at the background details while watching a movie, kinda pointless when everything is blurry apart from the foreground in your face action. In 2D dof effects can work well, in 3D it's an eye sore.

The 3D effect wasn't bad when everything stopped moving for a second but most of the time it was distracting. There was also some weird distortion going on in certain scenes, especially at the end with Will Farrel, his head seemed egg shaped coming out of the screen. My wife wasn't impressed either, 'This is not like how I remembered it, maybe it was just cooler as a kid'

I'll try again in another decade lol. Compared to my local cinema my home theater still is much better, no contest. I already added the lego movie to my pre-order list. Can't wait to watch it in 2D with proper balanced color and without the screendoor effect.

Disadvantage of living in a small town, crap theater, still $14 a ticket.
What I really want to see in The wind rises. But it only plays in 1 theater a couple towns away at 9:45pm, guess I'll wait for the blu-ray.

The 3D effect in Lego Movie was good by not wow, but it was better then 2D at my local theaters. I, Frankenstein had astounding 3D.

They use the entire wide-screen when there is a video format of that ratio. The amount of Black-bars depends on the actual aspect ratio of each trailer & film & etc. For example; I would see one trailer in 16:9 ratio for a CGI movie, and then I would see another in a wider ratio for a live action trailer. But sometimes they have black curtains on the side that they remove before showing any movie trailers, to make the screen be like 16:9 when showing ADs.

Lego Movie & Pacific Rim are 16:9 ratio. So my 3D IMAX experience was had Black bars on the side for Pacific Rim 3D.

The color was perfectly just fine and the picture quality & resoltuion was great. The 3D made the screen look somewhat bigger no questions ask. I didn't see any pixels (and I got more better 20/20 eyes then most adults easily, plus my eyes are light sensitive, but I never noticed anything sensitive about my eyes, just better detail seeing). The movie was not out of focus, but some times they would have things in the background out of focus (typical cinematography), but 2D movies do that 100% of the time, while 3D movies usually don't blur the background, except in selective scenes. And yeah, I also like to see the background, so that 1 scene in Oz Prequel & 2 or so scenes in Great Gatsby screwed me over as well, LOL. Often the background was not blurry in Lego Movie in almost every scene. I think you weren't wearing glasses or they didn't work at all.when I saw a Mr. Peabody & Sherman thing before the trailers, I notice the background was always blurry, but then I put my 3D glasses on and found out it was actually fully focus, and that it was just in 3D is all, so I needed the glasses on, to have a fully focus background. I live in a big city to be fair, and saw it at Rave theater (now owned by Cinemark, but still cheaper then Cinemark theaters thanks to Obama blocking mergers that want to increase cost to consumers). Will Farrell looked just fine. But once again this was my experience at my theater. I also saw it in Real D 3D, but on an IMAX size screen, specifically; Rave XTREME 3D.

The part about the background always being blurry sounds like you didn't wear the glasses at all. I think something was wrong with the glasses. You should diffenitely tell the Theater Manager about these problems, so that way other people don't have to suffer from the same horrible experience. The problem with today's theaters is that most the time they don't have anyone at the projector, so a lot of problems can happen and not get fix for a while, from that end alone.

Ironically I want to see Pompeii 3D, but they're only showing it at 9:30 pm or something like that, and luckily there is NO 2D screening for it. They do 1080p streaming on both Netflix & Hulu Plus, and they also do 3D streaming, but I heard Netflix isn't that good in 3D except in some of their offerings. I guess I would stick to 2D streaming on Netflix for the time being.

But you should seriously consider Godzilla 3D in theaters. Maybe you can take your kid. I've seen people come into I, Frankenstein 3D IMAX with their like 6 year old kids, LOL but true, and none of them got scared, I believe, but I was only paying attention to the movie, but I didn't over hear anyone except fellow adults for certain cool scenes.

So do you have any plans to see Godzilla 3D in IMAX?

And make sure to tell the theater manager about the problems with Lego Movie 3D.

The glasses worked fine. I took them off a couple of time to check the color difference with double images ofcourse. The backgroudn wasn't always blurry. The movie did use depth of field effects a lot with focus on foreground objects. Very common in 2D as well, just more annoying in 3D as my brain tells me I should be able to focus on the background like in real life.

Maybe your IMAX has dual 4K projectors already, or maybe they have their dual 2K projectors better calibrated. My cinema has just a regular 2K projector with visible pixels in bright scenes. The entire width of the screen was already used for the 16:9 aspect ratio, that's why I wondered how they would handle 2.35:1. Can't move the walls out :) I'm used to there being curtains on the side that move in and out.

As for the 3D effect, it does make it appear smaller to me. Everything moves in towards you. There's less of scanning the screen like I usually do while watching a movie. It's odd because I had the opposite effect when I was in my twenties. Playing Descent 2 in 3D on a projector made the wall fade away and my apartment felt 3 times bigger. Maybe we sat too close, 1/3rd up from the screen.

Anyway no plans on going to see 3D there again. Godzilla doesn't appeal to me either.
I'll go again when there's a good movie in 4K. No clue when they're going to upgrade though.

Yeah, I understand the back ground dilemma, and hate when it's blurred out too.

I didn't see IMAX because there's no official IMAX screening. I went and saw Rave's version of IMAX which is RAVE XTREME, and yes; they did have 4K Projectors. I didn't realize how important that was until reading your post just now.

Well, some cinema rooms have wider screens, and other cinema rooms have 16:9 screens. I think I might have seen black bars on top & bottom of the screen' before I discovered RAVE XTREME, even Medea's Christmas was shown in this, LOL. I didn't see Medea's Christmas, just giving an example on how almost any movie is shown on a big IMAX size screen with advance audio & seating.

Converted movies tend to have much more depth because they need more distance between the 2 displayed images. Stereo D does a great job at converting making their work look like Native 3D. And Stereo D converted Need for Speed in 3 months, because there's no CGI in the movie.

Yeah, it sounds best to wait for 4K projectors before seeing any movies in the cinema again.

Is there any movie on the updated 1st OP you plan on getting on Blu-Ray? Like Sin City 2 or Need for Speed or Noah or whatever?

And I'm guessing you haven't seen the 3D Blu-Ray for Pacific Rim nor The Great Gatsby.

I watched pacific rim on ps4 when it was on sale. ($1.99) That was a mistake, the 'HD' streaming quality couldn't cope very well with the water in all the action scenes which made everything blurry. Plus my internet decided to take a break way through reducing it to YouTube quality. Cinema > streaming.
I'll watch the great Gatsby when it's on sale, but pre-download this time.

I'm not into comic book movies anymore. I started re-watching Sin city last year and got bored halfway through.

I have 12 years a slave, Hunger games: Catching fire, The wolf of wall street and Frozen ordered on blu-ray. And I recently watched The master (great), Gravity (mediocre), Blue is the warmest color (very good), Argo (bad) and Nebraska (good).
The blu-ray from Gravity was great, even though the movie wasn't. (Sound and visuals were excellent, still left me empty) The 3 hour extras were very interesting. I watched some of them twice, awesome tech, unfortunately wasted on a crap storyline.
