I was at work the other day, I guess the longer I work there the more I notice how little people actually know about the hundreds of dollars they throw around for consoles and games, take for example this one woman came in and asked where our PS2 games were I showed her and she looked for about 15 minutes then came back and asked me if we had any Mario games for the PS2, and she isn't the only one to ask this question in fact it's usually asked a couple times a day or more.
Think about it, most likely there's gamers like that everywhere, could being misinformed be boosting the sales of consoles? If people like that didn't come to our store they would basically be left out to fend for themselves at places like Wal-Mart where an 70 year old woman would help you and think the games are just another type of "video" (I heard a woman working there say that at my local wal-mart)
Many of these same people are the ones that throw away money on the new system made by the same company without seeing what the new console does, I've seen it happen many times, very few ask questions, the ones that do I usually inform of the flaws of the system or the games they're wanting are not even on that system, usually the ones that I am able to inform change their mind, but really think of how many slip through when they're buying systems where you don't get personal help, if the world of gamers were all informed think how the sales would be different, and for the most part fanboyism wouldn't be as strong.
