Forums - Microsoft - GiantBomb: Quick look: Watching TV with XBox One

It's not there yet in Canada as my cable provider doesn't seem to be compatible with it. So basically no guide. However it is still kind of cool to have picture in picture. watch TV in a small window while playing game.

Lol that was funny. This is what happens when a company gets greedy and starts to force stuff on people they dont really want. Xbone is not for playing  games its a big black DVR box. I cant believe  Xbone fans are actually getting forced to use this worthless contraption. Microsoft pulled the wool over their customers eyes and their customers let them and even bent over to take it right up the wazoo. I fell bad for xboners...

I actually don't see the point of it. Am I missing something?

The TV my console is hooked up to has digital TV. To swap to TV, I click 2 buttons on my remote to change to the different output. Is it the novelty of voice controls or some exclusive content on Xbox TV?

The idea is that you can still stay connected, by chatting with your friends and then join multiplayer games with your friends in 1 click.

I'll do most stuff with my phone if I want to, though i can't replicate the joining mp games with 1 click

But the main problem is you can't really control you box. You can do some basic things, but you can't properly navigate a Sky + box and watch recorded content, you have to go and get the actual remote

Those saying they dont see a point havent used it.

It is a media hub. While watching TV you can snap in if you want, recieve game invites live onscreen, recieve Skype calls, have all your TV channels, Netflix, favourite skydrive films or photo reals, Lovefilm all on the same guide.

Sure you dont need. But its more convienient and personalized. Stereo is fine, but Surround is more complete.

Once youve experieced it first hand in your day to day life, its clear its a fantastic feature.

I agree with you.  I chose to go with Xbox One first because of that feature.  Instead of having a media centre PC, an apple TV and a Blueray player, I now can do all that plus gaming with the Xbox One and have less wires in the back of the TV.  I also love the seamless TV integration and simplificity of it.  Eventually I will upgrade my PS3 to PS4 but no one forced me to buy Xbox One.  Actually if anyone "foced" me, it's Sony by not implementing the same functionality that I want.  Just because some people don't want it doesn't mean no one else wants it.
