Super Smash Bros. Brawl released in Japan is the reason, of course.

Surely many people were waiting for that release to buy a Wii

Wii sold 216k in the US, that clearly has nothing to do with SSBB

I'm not botherd by the DS, it's now too far ahead to get excited about, I'll just gaze dreamily at another week Wii outsells PS3 by 250,000 worldwide :P

Well, it outsold the DS in Japan (which is pretty amazing, especially since it only sold about 150 less than the Wii,) but worldwide the PSP got crushed by the DS.

On the week ending February 9th, 2008, for no particular reason the Wii outsold the DS worldwide.
On the week ending September 22nd, 2007 (PSP redesign + Crisis Core in Japan), the PSP outsold the DS worldwide.
On the week ending March 24th, 2007 (PS3 European launch), the PS3 outsold the DS worldwide.

And those are the only other two times in the past year that the DS has not been the top selling hardware. If you go back a little further, you hit the Wii and PS3 launches in America and Japan, those would probably beat it too.

 Yeah the WW sales seem to have picked up the slack in Japan, it will be interesting to see what hapens next week in Japan, with the new color and a harvest moon game



 

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
