Forums - Microsoft - Digital Foundry Next-Gen Now: Ryse: Son of Rome (Drops Below 20fps)

Tagged games:

Just watched the entire video and this is what I saw:

Normal 3rd person view gameplay outside of palace - Hovers mainly between 26-28fps with a few spikes to 32. So I would say averages ~27-28fps.

During bowgun gameplay - Hovers mainly between 24-26fps with lows of 22 and high of 28. So I would say averages ~24-26fps.

During the bowgun gameplay though is when the big fps drops hit. Enemies begin attacking by launching projectiles and it hovered between 18-20fps with the one drop to 16.

Inside Palace Gameplay - Hovers mainly between 28-30fps with highs of 32 and lows of 24. The lows usually come during kill sequences. So I would say it averages ~28-30fps. I won't make a big deal about the drops during kill sequences since it is running in slow mo anyways, so it won't even be noticable.

Overall I would say it isn't a big deal at all. Still looks relatively smooth to me.

Ryse: Son of Flop or Sin FPS?

Of course you did. Did you laugh during the Killzone DF article when it dropped to the 30s?

Yeap but just checking you know Killzone is v-synced no? So you only note the drops if it goes below 30fps... variable from 30-60 won't be noticiable.

Now 30fps to 20fps is noticiable even for my grandmon.

That is bullshit. I can notice a huge difference when I play any game on my PC and it drops into the 40s from 60 with VSync on. BF4 beta dropping to the 40s was jarring.

Did you noticied GoW3 drops? Killzone use the same tech.

God of War 3 drops? I haven't played that game in years so I don't know.

  • Framerate issues (16fps was the minimum I found in the video).
  • The performance video didn't show framerate for FMVs... so you know what is realtime and what not.

You mean NeoGaf found? Also the game stays between 26 to 30 FPS most of the time.

and away from the pixel counters I think is clear...

For all the simplicity of its mechanics, Ryse’s artistry is second to none. Crytek is home not just to Europe’s best technical minds, it seems, but to some of its finest videogame artists, too. Even with its constant cribbing from Hollywood, there has never been a game world of such striking beauty, variety or detail. It’s a monumental piece of world-building that sets the standard for videogame fantasy in much the same way Gears Of War established its own precedents during the previous generation. Like the first Gears, Ryse is a simple game loaded with small-scale encounters and rudimentary set-pieces with the intention of hustling you towards something beautiful. Both have their own ‘horror’ stage, both have sieges, both have stationary guns of sorts, and Ryse, like Gears, has room to grow if given the chance. The game has a decisive ending, but it also opens the window to something even more fantastical, offering greater scope for mechanical depth and further extraordinary visual extremes.

Best lookign next gen game.  Many agree.

Looking forward to playing this tomorrow. Average review score is higher than most thought here and I guess that makes some salty.

seriously? I mean come on...do you seriously think that anyone would be salty because Ryse scored higher than expected, with 61 META? That's just...god. I usually don't respond to your posts, but that's just so ridiculous...

Well how else do you explain this?

Knack gets low reviews and its "paid off reviewers" or "I've watched videos and its actually really cool... what do reviewers know"  this gets a low score (but higher than knack) and its plain shit, no arguement.

Selective memory, as usual. Not everyone said that they were paid reviewers. Actually most Sony fans left negative comments about it. The only people who defended it were the ones who have bought the game and from their experience it's either good or not as bad as reviewers suggest. I for one thing am more excited for Ryse than any ps3/4 game even though I don't plan on buying an xbone. I'll proabably go to my local HMV and play it instead.

This "Sony fans are the worst" witch hunt is getting beyond ridiculous. Even worse: hypocricy. Apparently knack was terrible and because of it the ps4 launch was a disaster, but Ryse is worth checking out. Right.. No, both are worth playing as long as you want to play them no matter what reviewers say.
