Forums - Sony - Sony - exchanging defective playstation 4 units immediately

If all of this is really true, then its okay Sony

It's always hard to actually work out the precise nature of everything involved, but it seems the issue isn't too bad and Sony seem to be doing a good job sorting it out.

1% failure and rapid replacements are fine, But the RRoD didn't emerge for a while, so I hope that this is the only problem with the PS4

If Sony can replace the broken ones faster than new ones emerge, then the shitstorm will die down in a few days. There doesn't seem to be a single defect that really stands out., and there is no notable increase of reports at present.

Just for the humour impaired, here are a few contributions from misterxmedia's blog:

1. "I talked to the manager at my local GameStop and he said that of the 90 midnight launch PS4s, they've had 30 people bring back defective units, and another 20 or so people call with BLODs. 55% failure! It only does SONYFAIL!"

2. "76 returns for a Gamestop here in Miami."

I'm just sitting back and await the shitstorm on "Insider" on that drivel site when the XBox apu images appear, will be fun to watch..

Wow that's pretty good service! Good job Sony!
Its especially good because replacing defective consoles at this time must be quite difficult since the PS4 is sold out almost everywhere. If they are able to replace defective consoles then I guess this kinda proves that the failure rate is quite low.

Damn, Sony was really, and I mean really really ready for this gen. I mean you cannot be more ready than that. Very good job. That means that the PS4 success means a lot for Sony and their business. I have never seen such a launch close to perfect, with good PR (except for launch games)

1% and a direct immediate replacement. To be expected and fantastic customer service, makes you wonder what all the fuss was about?

Umm, what else would be expected?

People are giving Sony kudos just for doing the bare minimum now? You are supposed to have your product replaced if it's defective.

And where is the proof of 1%? Even if true, doesn't it directly contradict the 0.4% figure Sony/people have been spreading around? So Sony admitted they are lying?

I realize this was probably just flame-bait, but I'll bite.

First, please inform Microsoft that you're supposed to have your product replaced if it's defective. As I recall, with -rampant- RROD's back in 2005-2007 Xbox owners were essentially forced to BUY a second or third console becasue MS refused to admit there was a problem. It was only after massive customer backlash 3 years later that they begrudingly started offering extended warranty replacements.

Second, the .4% figure was given over a week ago, based on the 2000 or so pre-launch consoles that had been given to journalists and the Taco Bell contest winners. I don't think Sony has officially updated that figure yet, but I'm sure it's a bit higher than .4% after 1million+ were sold on Friday.

1% that's about... Carry the 5 add the 7
10,000 defective consoles out of a million!
Not bad Sony not bad.
*Claps*

You know that there are a crap load of them still sitting in the box new in scalpers hands.  We have over 70 on our local Craig's List alone.  Now, multiple that by the few hundred Craig's List regions and then add in the ones on eBay, there could still be a sizable number of defective ones out there yet.  Just keeping it real.

We already know Sony is lying. Social Media has proven this! (runs around naked and shouts "Its 40% you fools")

I still feel really bad for all those people that were hoping to play but got broken PS4s.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Anyone who believed that despite Sony's statements just wanted it to be true. xbox fanboys just wanted it to be true become that was there only chance of xb1 even coming close to ps4 this gen... a 50% like failure rate at launch.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

I wonder if Sony counts these "exchanges" as sales. That would explain the unusually high figures for a Playstation console.
