So 2 success stories for Xbox gamers today.

1stly Killer Instinct. Wow. What a reception. Coments like next year will be the best fighter ever etc. Really happy with Double Helix here. 6 characters and 1 mode of play and it is right with the likes of full games Killzone and Call Of Duty. Gameplay is flawless. Cant wait for re reviews and new content in March.

Also Dead Rising 3. Looks to be a great experience. And people seem to love the open world epic. Should fnish around 80 meta to.

With this in mind Forza 5 should 'SHOULD' do 90+. After all it has more content than any other next gen title period.

Really happy with the launch from a sales perspective. As for me? I don't care for reviews. I already new what I wanted. And it looks as though I wont be disappointed.

It is always best to go by what is written in the review itself and not the overall score.

Take Killzone for example. Majority say it is the best in the series, yet it is scored 10 points lower than the KZ3, which is considered worse than KZ2.

The reason this Killzone was scored so low is because it has to compete with COD and Battlefield. KZ3 didn't with its february release date.

Yes and Forza 5 has to compete with NFS and Gran Turismo 6, which even though on an earlier gen console contains more content in terms of cars, tracks and in game features such as weather and night racing.

These things could and should be taken into account considering it is supposed to be a evolution of the previous generation. This is what many reviewers were getting at with Killzone.

No, it doesn't. NFS is for the arcade racing fans. Driveclub was supposed to be the game to compare with Forza since it was a sim. GT6 is coming out too late for it to affect Forza's reviews. People already had half a month to get all the FPS they needed before playing Killzone. So by then it got boring.

My reasoning for believing Ryse will score higher than Forza 5 is that Forza 5 adds a few extras (better ai, physics, reflections), but in many ways takes a lot of content away, and their design aesthetic for the game has changed, its much washed out and muted, It lacks the "pop" Forza 4 had, and I doubt the AI and physics improvements will be enough to counter the removal of content and new art direction.

70-80 sounds about right. Most of the games look decent and fun to play. Though, not exactly essential.. which should be expected from launch titles. And its pretty obvious some of the games were rushed to meet launch (Killer Instinct, Forza.) Both of which lack content or features. Others lack a little polish - Dead Rising 3, Crimson Dragon etc.

But I think whats hurting the games is that we've had such an amazing lineup this year. I mean this year alone we've had the TLOU, Bioshock Infinite and GTA V. So, these games are going to have to do something quite special to measure up. And from what I've seen, they don't. Honestly though.. I can't say that I'm not if a bit dissapointed at the games, for both next gen consoles.

Hope Ryse and Forza fares better.

Reviews aren't over. The averaging will be done when Ryse and another game comes out. I forgot what it's called for Kinect.

If you are including Lococycle then Flower for PS4 should be included as well. Same with Sound Shapes.

So now we're using averages? Interesting

XB1 - Forza
PS4 - Resogun
XB1 - Dead Rising 3
PS4 - Killzone: Shadow Fall
XB1 - Killer Instinct
XB1 - Zoo Tycoon
XB1 - Powerstar Golf
XB1 - Ryse (sure it'll score higher than 67 ...)
PS4 - Contrast
PS4 - Knack
XB1 - Crimson Dragon
XB1 - Lococycle

Again, feel free to add games to your list when the scores or known, or at the very least label your list a prediction.

But i digress, lets be complete and add the other exclusive games available at launch too, using razors edge limits (down to single review scores on meta)

PS4 - Sound shapes
PS4 - Warframe
PS4 - Flower
PS4 - Resogun
XB1 - Dead Rising 3
PS4 - Killzone: Shadow Fall
XB1 - Killer Instinct
XB1 - Zoo Tycoon
PS4 - Blacklight Retribution
XB1 - Powerstar Gold
XB1 - Ryse (sure it'll score higher than 67 ...)
PS4 - Contrast
PS4 - Knack
XB1 - Crimson Dragon
XB1 - Lococycle

Forza 5 and Ryse somewhere in the list, ends up as 8 vs 9, with a healthy average of high scoring games, so can we drop the stupid biased argument now?

Oh well.

I have to say some fans are looking pretty desperate in here. Trying to compare 3 exclusives against 8. Taking an average of 3 scores versus 8 scores is pretty funny. I guess VGC never changes. Completely negating the Killer Instinct talk of being one of the best fighters ever made next year.

Its like Killer Instinct is KI Prologue. Gameplay fighting perfection.

i agree some people do look desperate. Like saying the ONE wins when in reality its close. Like saying reviews dont matter... then saying they do

Should we depend on sales numbers then?

Compiled from current metacritic figures that have more than a single review:

Battlefield 4 87
NBA 2K14 85
Need for Speed: Rivals 84
Resogun 82
Assassin's Creed IV 82
Call of Duty: Ghosts 78
Killzone: Shadow Fall 74
Contrast 67
Knack 58

PS4 average: 77.4

Call of Duty: Ghosts 78
Dead Rising 3 78
Killer Instinct 74
Zoo Tycoon 72
Powerstar Golf 68
Crimson Dragon 56
Lococycle 53

Xbox One average: 68.4

Assuming BF4, NBA and NFS:Rivals score roughly the same (currently no scores given):

Battlefield 4 87
NBA 2K14 85
Need for Speed: Rivals 84
Resogun 82
Assassin's Creed IV 82
Call of Duty: Ghosts 78
Killzone: Shadow Fall 74
Contrast 67
Knack 58

PS4 average: 77.4

Battlefield 4 87
NBA 2K14 85
Need for Speed: Rivals 84
Call of Duty: Ghosts 78
Dead Rising 3 78
Killer Instinct 74
Zoo Tycoon 72
Powerstar Golf 68
Crimson Dragon 56
Lococycle 53

Xbox One average: 73.5

All in all, pretty decent figures for a console launch, and close enough over all that people really need to shut up with the "x is better than y" nonsense, if it wasnt for lococycle and crimson dragon dragging the average down they would more or less be freaking identical.

when compared to the frequenly inflated scores of last gen it seems to me that critics are being kind of harsh on next gen.
