Forums - Nintendo - Wii U gamepad could eventually make use of Wi-Fi for extend range from the console.

The tech would even theoretically support extending the GamePad's use well outside the house, say to a local Starbucks, through Wi-Fi.

"Currently the Wi-Fi connection is peer-to-peer-based and using the GamePad outside the home would require a networked connection to the console; this is something that is a possibility for the future but is not in place today," Bekis said.

Even though it's a very old story it quite an interest possible feature if you didn’t already know about it. Could be great potentially great future feature for the Wii U especially with the new high capacity battery that just came out.

Around the Network

I would be thrilled. Living in an apartment, I face the console backwards so I can play it from my room (if I lean close enough to the wall). This would make everything less awkward, plus allow toilet play.

It baffles me they haven't done this yet. I have a Wii u and would love if they use it through Wi-Fi. I'm sure no one would complain with this added functionality. The 3 million people who own the system would be very happy if Nintendo allows this option.
