Ohhhhh guys there are a lot of contusion here....

The PS4's OS reserves memory from GDDR5 for it and apps... the 256MB DDR3 is for the background processor not related to PS4's main OS.

How do you know ? "Background" can stand for many things. That's a pretty vague way of putting it don't you think ?

No. PS4 have two general processors...

1) AMD x84-64 with access to GDDR5 (Main OS, Apps and Games uses it)
2) ARM with access to DDR3 (background tasks like download, power mode states, video capture, etc)

Not now like you can't prove otherwise

Their tear down lists an additional 512MB of GDDR5 as well. Anyone know what that's for?

A better picture...

It is not... the Tomshardware article misunsderstood that.

The original article says there are GDDR5 chips on one side of the PCB and GDDR5 chips on the other side of the PCB... 8GB total.

A better picture.

Wait, what???
I don't see 256 MB RAM anywhere on their list. There is 256 MB flash memory, but that's used for some kind of storage (maybe OS?). However, I do see 2 GB of DDR3. Is this true?

The PS4 reserves less than 3GB for the OS from the main 8GB of GDDR5 Ram. The 256MB is obviously for the background tasks that the ARM co-processor provides.
