Forums - Sony - (Sony and Nintendo First Party Games last two years) Has Sony's First Party been disappointing for the past two years?

short and simple: no

has metacritic become the sole factor to judge games now?

Nope. You just have to look at the developers of said games and the average scores/sales from said developers. Sony devs have differing potential, sales and score-wise. 1st and 2nd party.

You have your A list developers where the games tend to review well and sell well - Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Polyphony Digital.

You have your B list developers where games can review "well" but not sell quite as well - Guerilla Games, Quantic Dream, Media Molecule, Insomniac, Sucker Punch.

The others fall into C category, where they fill the gaps where no big games are releasing. These games arent really supposed to be up there with the likes of Uncharted, God of War and Gran Turismo. These games are on the market to keep people playing PlayStation or talking about PlayStation when there isnt a Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Need for Speed, FIFA, Madden, Uncharted, Gran Turismo or whatever releasing.

That said, with so many 70+ rated games things dont seem too bad. For a more successful attempt Jay you should have listed sales instead of scores, because a lot of those games bombed hard.

I look forward to your threads on Nintendo 1st party and Microsoft 1st party offerings over the last 2 Years.

The past two years? I believe Nintendo combined with MS would struggle to beat Sony in this time period. The support is awesome, it's just a huge pity most games are on PS3 instead of Vita.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

I don't see anything on that list below a 70% average other than Knack. Sony has been doing a fantastic job with their first party lineup this gen. I could see them rivaling Nintendo with the PS4.

2012-2013

Wind Waker - 90
Pikmin 3 - 87
New Super luigi U - 77
Nintendo Land - 77
Pokemon XY - 88
Professor Layton and Azran Legacy - 81
Pheonix Wright Ace Attorny - 81
Mario and Luigi Dream Team - 81
Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 88
Mario & DK Minis - 78
Luigi's Mansion: Dark moon - 86
Fire Emblem: Awakening - 92
Paper Mario: Sticker Star - 75
Professor Layton: Miracle Mask - 82
New Super Mario Bros 2 - 78
Kid Icarus: Uprising - 83

Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault is also below 70.

I would have to disagree with the matching Nintendo thing. Sony have too many teams that work on the filler stuff and the handheld support is abysmal in comparison to Nintendo.

So much for trying to bring peace to the site I guess.

And no they have not been disappointing to me. I've loved over half those games. Besides it's all subjective anyway.

I'm really glad you took the time to put that list together, but what's your point?

More than half the games on there were not disappointing at all! Latest example being Puppeteer, which got an 80 and it's one of my favorite games this gen.

A game doesn't have to score above 90 on metacritic to be a non disappointing game, ya know!
