FFXI and IX's soundtracks beat it soundly, imo.

No. That's your opinion though, so I have to respect it. But I seriously doubt you've played every other game with music with which to compare soundtracks to.

Chrono Trigger begs to differ.

I wouldn't say FF7 has the best soundtrack, altough i enjoyed it. I'm particularly fond of the DKC2: Diddy's Kong Quest soundtrack.

I think I prefer FFVIII soundtrack better.

For me it's w/o a doubt Ocarina of Time!

Every zone in this game has great music. Gerudo Valey, Lost Woods, The market, Kokiri Forest, Song of Storm... and so on. There is simply not a single song in that game that ain't eternal. All songs in this game, once you play the game and hear it, for ever and ever it always will bring you good memorys when you hear them.

There's a couple of nice themes in FF VII (Aeris Theme, Cid's Theme, the World Map, Sephiroth...), but overall I thought it was a big step backward after FF VI.

It didn't help that the sound samples were atrociously bad.

I think it's one of the best (the Cosmo Canyon music and the Aeris song are my favorites), but the best is up to opinion, my favorites are Dragon Quest VIII Journey of the Cursed King, Xenoblade Chronicles and Chrono Trigger.
