Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Since Sony's lackluster launch lineup reviews are up, what's in store for Microsoft???

The question is, does Forza do anything different or new? If not, reviewers will have to deduct points or they run the risk of being labeled as hypocrites.

Another really odd thing with metacritic is this:

Since Meta weighs sites differently: Some luck is ideal. Perhaps you have a guy called Henry working for IGN who gives every game a 1/10. Then suddenly, a game comes and this time its Sam who is reviewing it. Sam is much nicer and gives it a 8/10. Meta doesn't take into account who is reviewing it so it really is a bit ofa gamble. Saying "IGN gave it a 10" isn't the same as saying "Colin gave it a 10" or "Greg gave it a 10" but to meta, its all the same.

This has always been an issue for me.  Take Destructoid, where I used to be a regular.  I can tell you now, without a shred of doubt, that Dale North and Jim Sterling are two very, very different reviewers, yet people will still say that Destructoid always reviews a certain way--even now, after Sterling has left.  It's just not true.  North is one of my favorite reviewers and Sterling one of my least favorite.  This is another reason why Metacritic score is ultimately meaningless.  We give these few dozen random people way, way too much power.

Personally, I try to find reviewers with tastes that match my own and I give those writers much higher regard than some guy at the Toronto Sun that I've never read or heard of before.  That's why an "average" with something objective is kind of ridiculous.  Why would I give the opinion of someone I don't know the same amount of weight as someone whose work I like and respect?

The influence Metacritic has over many people is really strange.

I mostly care about meta because I know the developers care about it and the publishers seem to sometimes have fucking deals going on based off of it. As absurd as it may be :P.

But for reviews that I somewhat care about on a "personal level" if you will: I too have a share of people I look to and actually read thoroughly ^^

Ryse - 55

Dead Rising 3 - 70

Forza 5 - 80

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

forza will score well (90s), Deadrising in the 60s and Ryse between 55 and 65.

Forza-90
Ryse-83
Dead Rising-79
Fantasia-85
Zoo tycoon-7
Crimson Dragon-75
Killer Instinct-8
Fighter Within-4
Zumba-5

Launch Exclusives:
Crimson Dragon - 8/10
Fighter Within - 6/10
Forza Motorsports 5 - 9/10
Killer Instinct - 9/10
Lococycle - 8/10
Ryse: Son of Rome - 9/10
Zoo Tycoon - 9/10

Crimson Dragon and Lococycle may end up being lower than an 8. The buzz around Ryse, Zoo Tycoon, KI, and Forza is too high. I don't think Fighter Within can go lower, but I haven't heard anyone say it's anything to write home about. Everything I've heard about Ryse, I think it'll surprise everyone.

mmm...., I'm surprised about the severity of Killzone reviews....I think is more based on the fact that people don't love the game rather it's bad. But..., with Ryse and Dead Rising 3, i expect the first one to receive very mixed reviews and been something like Knack...., some 4's..., some 8's...., a 60-70 on metacritic at the end. And Dead Rising 3 it should be like Killzone SF, around 70-80. Forza 5 will have around 80-90 on metacritic being the most consistent next gen exclusive

What I think is the mantra in most sites is "We don't need this gen yet, and these games shows this, you must wait".

yeap which is complete BS and poor journalism.... I don't ask them to tell me what I need.... I won't them to tell me how good the game is regardless of the gen the platform or the time of the year....

it's like someone saying we don't need imax or 3d so any movie releasing in those format are automatically bad movies.... jus because of the OS/UI on current gen being so slow it's been years since we needed a new gen.... I waste hours waiting for things to load, this is unacceptable by today standard... just that warrants a new gen even if everything had to stay the same.... those journalist are tools.... I bet they are the first one to by a new smartphone.....

Forza: 9
Ryse: 8
Dead Rising3: 6.5

" Rebellion Against Tyrants Is Obedience To God"

I would expect all reviews to be similar, since no games are reinventing the wheel and that's what reviewers expect to see at the start of every new console generation.

Lackluster? What was so bad besides Knack?

As time passes, nothing changes with you, Monty. We always agree! ;)

But, you can't blame overly energized internet goers that consider anything under an 8 "lackluster". The gaming journalist world are partly to blame. KNACK, yes, bad! Killzone, average to above average. All esle looks about what I expect out of a console launch.

To answer this exaggerated topic: Ryse will be butchered, Dead Rising may get in the 70s, and Forza will score just a tad lower than previous iterations.

Glad you agree! Most console launches are lacking, and the last three Sony consoles haven't had great launch lineups either. Any given launch is going to have one or more duds anyways. If I buy a PS4 at launch (or within the first year), it's with the knowledge that Sony will release great first party titles over the system's lifetime (as they have done with their last three systems) and that it will receive the vast majority of third party heavy hitters.
