39 shares it's name with one of the stages in Super Smash Bros Brawl, and this game was also made by HAL Labs, though after this game its "franchise" was later handed to Genius Sonority

Hint for #39: A widely loved game from a once widely-loved developer. I still love them (unlike CERTAIN moderators) but even I admit that they have murdered this series. They could potentially save it next year, but they almost certainly won't.

Dragon Age... something.

There's only one Dragon Age game that anybody likes ^_^

If it's Dragon Age Origins then I still love the dev too.

42 - Mario Kart - Double Dash!!

Racing games have always been a hit and miss with me, where the only games I have really enjoyed are this game, GT4 and NFS: Undercover or Underground (don't remember). This game was a game were I really played hard on the multiplayer part with my brothers and truth to be told, it was AWESOME!!

The double mechanic of the game is one addition that get home with me and playing with 4-p where I had to co-operate with my racing buddy showed to be chaotic and fun. Then there is the addition of super items, which for some reason has been long gone since its debut.

All-in-all, this game is just a remarkably fun game in its franchise and one game where I'll always hold the memories I got.

#40 - Star Wars Battlefront 2 (Kudos to no-one for guessing this)

Let me preface this by saying: I'm not really a fan of Star Wars.  I've seen all the films, but I never particularly got into the backstory or anything and never felt particularly invested in the films.  Which makes you realise what an achievement it is that this game made it into my top 50 favourite games of all time list; let alone in at #40.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 was just everything I look for from a shooter.  I like the extra layer of tactical play buried underneath everything else.  Battlefront 2 provided this in droves.  You were capturing bases and had to figure whether it was better to defend what you have or plow forward.  Which route should you take?  Do you capture the base with the built-in defences or capture the one which can provide you with vehicles?  Sounds simplistic; but so many shooters sorely miss this mark by miles.

Little touches, like being able to command other units to follow you, really added to the flavour of the game.  It helped that there was a lock-on option for an idiot shooter like me, too.

The campaign was nothing to write home about, but Galactic Conquest was absolutely the bees knees.  Capture the galaxy planet by planet.  Defend what you have.  Engage in space battles.

Seriously, I could go on and on listing the merits of this game.  It's one I return to regularly; and I can't wait to see what DICE bring to the formula in 2015.

Clue for my #39 - Hospital; virus; no weapons. Ice station; monkey assistant; rocket launchers only. And so many other fantastic combinations.

40. Unreal Tournament (PC, also on DC and PS2)

This game was a revolution and one of the first game marketed as a pure online shooter. Fast paced action, multiple game modes, superb level design and a plethora of weaponry made this game sublime. I still remember getting my first "M-M-M-MONSTER KILL!" whilst sniping on Facing Worlds, and jumping around on Morpheus with dual pistols as if it was The Matrix; it was brilliant! Unreal Engine and Epic would never have been so big if it hadn't been for this game's success.

Clue for 39:

Turn back now, mortal!
Did I mention, I'm a god now?

A game that requires thinking.

God of War 2.

Number 40 is the Twisted Metal reboot.  While the cars in the Twisted Metal reboot aren't as good due to the similarities of their special moves compared to others, they redid a lot of the weapon pick ups and the stages are easily the best developed in the series.  It's my favorite in the series for what fun can be had with it in multiplayer with a lot of players, although at the same time, I prefer Twisted Metal 2 and Black because they're better with a fewer amount of players, the AI is better and not as focused on the player when playing single player and you also have multiple lives in an arcade like single player.
