Far Cry Instincts (Xbox/2005) Guessed by Scoobes

Although it had a short life, the original Xbox was a terrific console for shooter fans. Among others, it supported Halo, Halo 2, ports of Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, and this gem from Ubisoft. Instincts is less open-ended and more linear than the original Fay Cry for PC, but it makes up for it with new weapons, modes, and story elements. The action in Instincts is intense, the environments huge and varied, and the thrills come early and often. This was my first experience with Far Cry, which has quickly become one of my favorite franchises.

Clue for 45:

So a thief, a general and an assassin walk into a bar. They see a a gambler playing blackjack with a man who could be a King. The all go and watch a clown show.

Was already guessed correctly, but I would have  guessed Final Fantasy 6.

"Remember you will die!"

Demon's Souls or Dark Souls?

Well, just so that nobody else can swoop in and claim the glory: Final Fantasy VI/III.

(although technically, the moment you're referring to happened after Kefka fucked the world up. I was just focusing on the characters and didn't remember)

Reposting my hint for #46 since it appears to have been buried:

This game taught me that if I stick around for my friends when things look bad, they might just stop being assholes and randomly ditching me all the time.

Amusingly, your game is also Final Fantasy VI?

Quite right. I giggled a bit when Scoobes didn't get it. :P

I couldn't think of it until it was already answered, then I immediately got what you meant about sticking around when things look bad and being randomly ditched all the time.  I always wait for Shadow.

I'm going to be pretty busy until Tuesday, so Tuesday I'll come back with a bunch of hints and play catchup.

BAH! *smacks head on wall*

46. Pokemon Black and White (last year 48), First Impression 7, replayability 8, technical score 7.5

Pros: Game Freak steps up its storytelling game with this one, with the under-villain N and over-villain Ghetsis, with a more ambitious plan than most: to overthrow the entire system of Pokemon ownership and set them all free. The game also scored points for relying less on nostalgia by having every bit of the game up until the first run at the Elite IV be populated entirely by new Pokemon. Having a secondary Elite IV and a surprise appearance from Cynthia made for one of the most robust post-games since Gold and Silver

Cons: Changing the EXP scaling to be a double-whammy: not only does the amount needed for the next level go up with each level, but the amount you earn from KOing the same Pokemon goes down. Only Audino saved this from being a catastrophic move. It was also my second Pokemon game in as many years at the time, so it loses a bit on first impression due to burnout.

45 was a completely different game in Japan. It was also all just a dream.

Super Mario Bros. 2

Super Mario Bros. 2

I've gotta amp it up a bit, damnit. Though to be fair, the game is new to this year.

#46 - Super Mario Land (Guessed by F0X)

1st time I played this game was in 2011 through the 3DS-eshop and I have to say it was a very solid experience.

The controls were fine and tight, just like a Mario game should be. But the best part of this game was the lengthier levels that were presented and the really catchy musis. The level designs are among the best I have seen and they were a blast to play through. Altough the game lacked in levels, which is a bit of a shame because they were so awesome. Then, there was also the shooter levels which provided some more variety in the game and I found them to be enjoyable as well.

There is not much to say about this game to be honest. It just has overall very good design, music and controlls. The game just lacked in lenght and amount of power-ups, which there was a ton of in the sequel.

At last the turtle admits him as his enemy... well at least in this spin-off.
