Hint for #7:

Before he played Bond, Daniel Craig co-starred in a movie adaptation of this video game.

Tomb Raider? Though I wouldn't know which one, because I thought the movies weren't based on a game perse .

But randomly I'd guess Tomb Raider II .

Close! I love Tomb Raider II, but this spot goes to the premiere game

Nice job, Peelman!

Tomb Raider (PS1/1996) Guessed by S.Peelman

When I finally got my hands on a copy of Tomb Raider a few years ago, I read a blurb on the back case that read "the best game of 1996." In light of my huge admiration for Super Mario 64, I was skeptical. I couldn't imagine any game from 1996 coming close to the brilliance of Super Mario 64, which, at the time, was in my top five. How wrong I was. Tomb Raider was a revelation for me. The environments were amazingly constructed, the puzzles ingenious, and the shooting mechanics exciting. It does everything so masterfully: exploration, puzzle-solving, acrobatics, gunplay, etc. Tomb Raider STILL isn't the best game of 1996, but it's far and away the second best game.

10 - My favorite competitive Multiplayer game this gen and really the quintessential experience for MP on a console based on a PC franchise but scaled down a bit.  Was an entry in a long running franchise that has had subsequent entries that are extrememly buggy and IMO, not even close to as fun.  The most recent entry is under huge scrutiny publicly right now for massive technical failures.  Has one of, maybe the best, DLC packs ever created that is more of a standalone game than an add-on.

9 - What sounds will you make when you hit the ground? Do you think you will hear it before you die?

8 - My favorite scene is Frog with the Masamune opening the mountain.

10 - Battlefield Bad Company 2

9 - Mass Effect 2

8 - Chrono Trigger

NEW CLUES !!!!:

7 - My favorite NES game ever which spawned a series of approximately 40 games.  The series has entries that are action, platformer, RPG, fighting, among others.  Amazingly, not one movie has been made using the IP.

6 - FPS that was controversial upon release for reasons that became much more apparent when its development hell sequel flopped in more recent history.  Has some of the best enemies and weapons in any FPS ever.  The first level in the singleplayer game is one of the best FPS multiplayer levels ever made, particularly when used for 1v1.

5 - Iconic sequel to my #1 favorite game of all time.  This 2nd entry in the series dopped the episodic setup that the first game used and opted for all the levels to be in just 1 episode.  One of the most pre-release hyped games in history, and by mosts' standards, lived up to that hype.

I finally finished my list for the first time ever!

So what do we do in the discussion thread. It looks like you guys are giving hints to games in your list. What number should I start on? 8,7,6?

#08 - Metal Gear Solid (Kudos to Wright for guessing this)

I replayed Metal Gear Solid on my Vita recently and it made me realise what a timeless game this is.  Really, aside from some slightly-dated-by-modern-standards controls and Snake's complete lack of eyes, everything else about this game is still a masterpiece of the highest order.

Featuring one of the more ridiculous yet actually comprehensible plots I've played in a game, mixed in with some fantastic characters (even the villains were fleshed out well in this game - I felt truly sorry after killing Sniper Wolf) and great stealth action gameplay; it remains one of my favourite games to this day.  The bosses are just endlessly creative and some of them (bike chase with Liquid) actually made me feel like I was in an action movie which was just absurd at the time.  I can see why Kojima went with the direction he did for future games.

All in all, fantastic.  And since I brought it up... *sniff*:

Clue for my #07 - The PS2's greatest open-world extreme sports game. Not from the series that was milked to death by Activision.

Clue for my #06 - "Imprisoned for ten thousand years. Banished from my own homeland. And now you dare enter my realm? You are not prepared"
(Bonus points for guessing this one without google).

#8  This game when first released for the PS2 and was considered to have the best looking graphics (some said PS3 level) at the time. There was also a special versus mode that could be unlocked once you beat the game.

#7    This game released for the PS2 and featured a New Game + mode where you had the chance to earn new weapons and items. One of which was a cloak that could be used as a parachute if the player happened to lose their grip.

#6   This often overlooked gem came out for the PS2 and revolved around the protagonist having to find ways to prevent his own murder. It was also constantly criticised by my brother for not having any combat in it.
