#28 - Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction (Kudos to Player2 for guessing this)

Ratchet's PS3 debut took the series in a different direction to the PS2 trilogy while keeping all the elements that made that game so fantastic.

Far more narrative and character-focused, while still being a silly over the top comical adventure; ToD really established the series in my eyes as being one of the best things in gaming.

Gameplay was as tight as ever, and although some forced sixaxis controls let it down a bit there's still nothing like taking ridiculous weapons and blasting waves of enemies to bits with them.

Surprisingly beautiful too.  Was the earliest game that sold me on how beautiful HD development could be.

Clue for my #27 - end of a trilogy that references the Wizard of Oz.

Hints!

#27 - The other 5th gen racing spin-off.

Crash Team Racing?

No idea about your other two though.  I didn't think you liked Art Academy games :P

Bingo.

#26 should be a breeze for you!

Hahaha.  I think I used this exact same clue for the game last year myself actually (if it's what I think it is).

Final Fantasy VIII?

(Either that or Spyro... and Spyro doesn't draw!)

'Mega Man 2'

for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) released in 1988.

'Mega Man 2' is action-packed platformer that doesn't get boring quickly. It's fast-paced and challenging, though not near-impossible like a lot of games on the NES were. 'Mega Man 2' instead is well balanced and fair and it's platforming is intuitive and can be hard yet is never frustrating.

The game is an action-platformer, where the player chooses one of eight levels to play. At the end of each of these levels is a boss which grants the player with an additional power or weapon to use in the other levels. This brings a bit of stretegy into the mix because certain bosses are vulnarable to certain weapons. This means there's an optimal path to take through the game. Once these eight levels are completed, the player can play the final ninth level which consists of multiple stages ending in the final boss.

Luckily, unlike a lot of early games, 'Mega Man 2' doesn't need to be completed in one sitting as it includes a password system. Nothing too shocking, but the password system is quite a complicated one because of the non-linear nature of first eight levels. Actually, that system is what's probably most meorable about the game, it kind of looked like you were playing tic-tac-toe!

#27 Hint

I said two games before this one in the list that this developer has amazed me most this past generation. Here, at #27, is another game by them. The third in what's probably an even more famous series of theirs.

Of course, what else could it be !

#28: Bioshock (PC)

Bioshock is the game that reconciliated me with FPSs. This game knows how to create an atmosphere and it also tells its story brillantly mostly through pre-recorded tapes you find along the way while exploring Rapture. Since you can still walk around while listening to those bits and pieces from important figures of Rapture, the flow of the game is never interrupted (apart from some key sequences which are mindblowing) and this is a big plus. Bioshock also sets itself apart from other FPSs by featuring more than the usual gun selection: the plasmid shake things up and are fun and very diversified.

#27 Hint: This game changed up the established formula by doubling the characters. It also disregard its story by letting you play with characters that shouldn't really be there.
