I've changed my approach to this list compared to last year a bit.

Most games will still be there, and I can tell you now that my top 10 hasn't changed, but my list will actually be a top 45, with the #45-50 games being games that I don't necessarily think are among the best ones, but did make a crucial impact on my start as a gamer.

That is why you will not find my #50 in anyone's list. Likely. That's because today, it's a silly game, and not very good anymore because it's stupidly simple. However, without this game, I wouldn't be gaming today. It wasn't the first game I ever played (though, maybe it was), but it did introduce me to consoles.

#50: This old game, is from way before my time. It arrived on the successor of the very first home console and it was inspired by the most popular movie-genre in the '60s and '70s. It actually made for an intense multiplayer experience, because bullets could bounce off trees!

I don't think anyone would guess this though, but don't beat yourself over it . I'll post it in a couple of hours (it's actually already a bit late for the hint).

I had to do a lot of research to track this game down. I won't say what it is in case someone wants to guess.

It looks pretty good, though! I could see getting addicted to multiplayer sessions.

I know which game is too

My first thought is that it could be a port of a certain bally/midway arcade game with a similar name, but that one has cactuses and bullets don't bounce in them, so I had to do some searching.

My #49 is a fighting game that was only on the genesis and is widely regarded by fans as a game that needs to be remade / rebooted. It was critically acclaimed but largely overlooked. It's "finishing moves" depended mostly on where you were standing in the level.

Eternal Champions?

Hint for my 49

If I fill in the ___ it's too easy.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri?

BAM, you got it.

My #49 is very a very obvious choice, but actually wasn't on my list last year. However, I famously did a sort of playthrough of a similar game and shared it with VGChartz until Hurricane Sandy ruined my save data.

#50) Super Mario 64 (Virtual Console)

Favorite BGM: Koopa's Road

I know that since quite a few of your lists are likely to end with this game sitting at or at least not far from the exact opposite end, it's expected of me to try to justify its low placement on mine. But I don't think that would really be in the spirit of an appreciation thread, would it? Its smooth gameplay and charm managed to hold appeal for me when I first played it after fifteen years had passed from its release date, and bigger and flashier 3D platformers had come and gone. Had it chosen a different approach, many of the other games on my list might not exist in the form they do today. And I appreciate it for that fact.

It was Pokemon Yellow. However, I'm going to be putting Red/Blue version on the list instead for a number of reasons.

1. They came first, and thus get a senior discount

2. Red/Blue had better starters, especially from a pure gameplay Point of View

3. Yellow didn't really add as much as one would hope, other than some balancing

4. In my mind, Pokemon Red/Blue gets extra credit for revolutionizing handheld gaming as we know it, making it something distinct but not inferior to console gaming. And as a handheld fan, I owe at least a low ranking vote to this pair of nearly identical titles.

Well goody me.
I'm not quite finished with my list, but as of now I have 50 games, they might change and there is many new entries.
My 50th for now is Modern Warfare 2.

49# hint - A lot of the characters names share the name of vehicle parts
