Well it's 12:20 here, so here is my #50.
Ranger-X (Genesis)

Now just so you know, I'm not a fan of platformers, Megaman isn't even on my list (but I would have put it just below this if it made it). However Ranger X was just this really fun platformer I played growing up. It's one of Genesis's sleeper hits, and kind of unusual because you actually control two units at the same time at the same time, which can merge to a single unit. One is a human with an exoskeleton with a Jetpack (like Megaman, but you can hover), the other is an AI motorcycle. Controlling both characters is actually pretty easy, and that's probably why the game is so fun. I don't remember the controls, but basically you play as the soldier, and you use the bike as a source of secondary fire. You can land on it or merge to travel faster, or merge with it when your shield is low. I think if the bike blows up, you can still continue, but if you die, you loose a life. Later on, I think you also get air assistance, but I don't rmemeber too many levels with it.
Anyway, the game is short, but really action packed. The bosses are Metroid level awesome, but more plentiful, and overall it's just a great fun and short game. It would have been perfect for the PSP if they re-made it, but they didn't so :-/ Still, a great platformer, and my #50

BTW, I'm not sure if Metal Warriors or Cybernator (SNES) are on my list, but they are both also very good platformers. I like all 3 of them above Megaman, but I remember Metal Warriors being really hard. I would have trouble deciding between them which is best.
