Forums - Gaming - Your Top 50 Games: 2013 Discussion Thread (The Final Day!)

10 games from my top 50 last year were dropped, some due to new arrivals, and others due to my new computer generated ranking system, but mostly games at the end of the list, the computer didn't actually change as much as I was worried it might.

I'm going to try to do clues this year, but no promises; here's the first!:

My #50 sports a battle system which would later see a similar and simplified cost of action system used in Final Fantasy XIII and a childhood friend who won't join your journey without the proper sequence of events.

Primarily an RPG player but have interest in any game that will make me think.

I'm going to bed unfortunately, but before I do I'll give a second clue:

Flesh eating dogs.

Resident Evil 3?

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well it's 12:20 here, so here is my #50.

Ranger-X (Genesis)

Now just so you know, I'm not a fan of platformers, Megaman isn't even on my list (but I would have put it just below this if it made it). However Ranger X was just this really fun platformer I played growing up. It's one of Genesis's sleeper hits, and kind of unusual because you actually control two units at the same time at the same time, which can merge to a single unit. One is a human with an exoskeleton with a Jetpack (like Megaman, but you can hover), the other is an AI motorcycle. Controlling both characters is actually pretty easy, and that's probably why the game is so fun. I don't remember the controls, but basically you play as the soldier, and you use the bike as a source of secondary fire. You can land on it or merge to travel faster, or merge with it when your shield is low. I think if the bike blows up, you can still continue, but if you die, you loose a life. Later on, I think you also get air assistance, but I don't rmemeber too many levels with it.

Anyway, the game is short, but really action packed. The bosses are Metroid level awesome, but more plentiful, and overall it's just a great fun and short game. It would have been perfect for the PSP if they re-made it, but they didn't so :-/ Still, a great platformer, and my #50

First Boss above

BTW, I'm not sure if Metal Warriors or Cybernator (SNES) are on my list, but they are both also very good platformers. I like all 3 of them above Megaman, but I remember Metal Warriors being really hard. I would have trouble deciding between them which is best.

Finally done re-ordering my list so here's my hint for my #50 game:

Power corrupts everything, even moronic robots.

I want to say Portal 2. Wheatley was designed specifically to be moron.

Errr.... Epic MIckey?!

No. Good try.

Well damn. Looks like noones gonna get it. If I say it launched on Wii Ware, and has had 6 sequels, would that help?

The Bit. Trip games? So Bit. Trip. Beat?

Yep!My first ever download title and game bought because of a demo, Bit. Trip Beat features Commander Video, a hero of the outdated medium in his first musical adventure across genres and the ages. It won't be his last appearance in the list, either.

An easier clue for 49. Spandesu Ballet had a huge hit with the subtitle if this entry.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I like this clue. It made me do 30 seconds of research.

I'm going to assume that "Gold" is the subtitle, and my final guess is Killer Instinct Gold. It was the first game that come to mind.

Hint for #49: It's the luckiest entry in one of gaming's biggest franchises. Entire communities have formed around it.
