Around the Network

I want to see some new stuff from Nintendo, something that actually needed the dual screen setup on a home console... rather than just being a convergence device for next generation's handheld/home hybrid console.

Donkey Kong Country delayed to November 2014, Bayonetta 2 & Monolith Soft's X delayed to 2015.

Prease understand.

Lol. I don't see them pushing DK again, but I'm already planning on the other two games releasing in 2015... It's Nintendo.

Bayonetta 2 could easily be 2015. I doubt X will get pushed back. It's been in development for almost three years at this point.

On a serious note, I do believe this is a more likely scenario than any meaningful exclusive third party games being announced this coming Nintendo Direct. It's clearly up to Nintendo themselves to provide us with great exclusive software for the system. So far most of the other developers and publishers have unfortunately ignored the Wii U, and I see this situation getting worse before it gets better. I do believe that we are going to see some ports and a lot of console exclusive indie games released throughout 2014, but as far as new, exclusive third party games announced at ND - possibly the third Sonic game and a couple of other games NIntendo could be funding.

If you really believe this, you haven't been paying attention.

Third parties that have been supporting Nintendo reasonably have filled the latter half of 2013 with games... yet the only games from them in the first half of 2014 are games that were going to release in 2013 and have been delayed (such as Watch Dogs) or very minor new IPs.

Take Ubisoft for example - they had a heap of game announcements this year, with the Wii U lineup including Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Just Dance 2014, and Assassin's Creed IV, and Watch Dogs was also in there. And yet, there wasn't a single title announced for 2014, despite a number of PS3/PS4/360/XB1 titles announced for 2014. The exact same pattern appears with all of them - Activision, Sega, Warner Bros, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, Disney, D3 Publisher, etc. Are we to believe that every single one of them restricted their attention to 2013 and have no plans for Wii U in 2014? And it's also true of 3DS, despite that system doing incredibly well.

As for exclusives, I'll point out that there's always a few exclusives - usually with Nintendo part-funding or at least paying the advertising costs for. 2014 will undoubtedly hold a few, including at least one major exclusive. But we don't know about them, because of the aforementioned apparent blackout on 2014 Nintendo-system game information.

I'd bet that Ubisoft will have an exclusive of some sort - maybe a new Red Steel? And Sega will almost certainly have something more up their sleeves for Nintendo. I'd also bet that Warner Bros will have something, and I could see Namco Bandai revealing some title that was part of the deal with them being the source of the dev studio for Smash Bros (perhaps a Tales, or a SoulCalibur).

All that being said, the Nintendo Direct has been announced, and officially is focusing on 3DS (but then, they always throw in surprises, and they never fully focus on one system when they say it's the focus). So I doubt there'll be a lot of info on Wii U titles announced today/tomorrow (depending on timezone). I still stand by my prediction that there'll be a Nintendo Direct sometime soon with that sort of content, though.
