I think the prospect of you needing a ""physical"" reward for completing something like "Jumped over a hedge!" is quite sad. But, if that's what gets your motor running, then what can I say? I guess you'll just have to miss out on some things.

Yes but what if I already finished NSMB U and have no interest in it anymore? Putting some kind of achievement/trophy system will motivate mo st people to play games over and over, because it makes it simply more rewarding. Its not necessary and is obviously not a factor when your deciding to buy a game, it simply adds more to the experience. I mean don't games get praise the more rewarding they are?

We can agree Nintendo is just a little behind when it come to Network features.

who are you to judge how people enjoy entertaiment?

Those people are not enjoying games, they are just using them as a way to compete and  fulfill certain aspects of their low self-steem

I didn't read it all (I find it difficult to read unstructured text that resembles a block) but you bought a system - at least I assume you bought it, that you knew didn't' support trophies that you find necessary to enjoy your gaming since 2008.? That doesn't make sense so you probably didn't know the system don't do trophies.

My advice is to sell the wii u and visit my ebay shop. There is a lot of crap you can buy there and never use.

LOL

ill ask you the same question, who are you to judge how people enjoy entertaiment and who are you to give a psychological analysis on millions of gamers and falsely claim they ALL have low self esteem?  way to go to generalize btw.

look at super mario 3D land for 3DS, 3DS have no thropy system, but in this game, it show to other players how many stars you have, they are proportional to how much of the game you have completed.
And are only 5 stars.
Majoras mask, the trhopies are the own masks, complete all masks gives you new gameplay elements. For me it is the perfect definition of what a thropy should be. (And in this case they dont show to the world)

Not all games need thropies, but the games that need, you already have.
But if what motive you to play is to show the tropies to the world, something is wrong.

I'm really, really glad I never got into the whole achievement collection thingy, otherwise I'd probably prefer The Conduit over Knights of the Old Republic and that would suck balls. Well, on the other hand I did waste my time on getting 15 researchers in a single level in A Game of Dwarves so I guess I'm in the risk zone.

But I do find the achievement system interesting. It's apparent that achievements that doesn't get added to a global achievement system are totally worthless. The far majority of games have achievements in one way or the other, like getting all the stars in Mario or Sonic, beating Metroid in under 3hours or defeating Nemesis in Final Fantasy X. But those achievements, and to some extent Steam achievements, really don't count because there's no way to add them all up and show off to friends and foes. Even if getting these achievements mean unlocking content in the game they're still very much inferior.
So one can only assume that it's really not about the achievements themselves but showing them to people in an easy way. It's about bragging rights. And I guess that's why the lack of a "true" achievement system on Nintendo/pre 7th gen systems and to a lesser extent Steam doesn't bother me personally because I don't value such a feature. I do like collecting all the coins in Mario and getting all the heart-pieces in Zelda but I don't worry about whether or not other people can see it. And if I did want to show off I could just post a screenshot on Miiverse or something...

Why did you buy a console, but no games with it? Are we supposed to believe that you are that much of an idiot?

Achievement unlocked.

"Bought a video game system but no games. Because wasting money is fun."

Trophies are worthless. It's like your boss giving you a new job title without a raise or perks. It means nothing.
I guess it's a way for people who aren't recognized for what they do IRL to feel good about themselves.

No. He has a point. Microsoft forever changed the amount of time gamers spend gaming with the achievement system. Sony upped the ante with the Trophy system which works you up to a platinum so you can show off your trophies to other players. It doesn't motivate one to play a game, it motivates people to keep games and become a completionist.

 See people, S.T.A.G.E. get's it.

Most who argue against it refuse to understand your point. Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros and Zelda are all games capable of having achievements.

Xbox fan here

I don't care about achievements, at all. So the argument is beyond flawed imo.
