Apparently Sony is doing something soon on the PS4 where getting gold trophies gets you prizes.

Trophies are nice, but I will never go way out of my way to collect them unless they are tied to the plot or unlock some collectible or easter egg. And I will NEVER use them an an e-penis. I don't care about showing off to strangers. Online leaderboards are much more meaningful to me, because that means that to get ranked and recognition for something, you absolutely must have some skill at it.

Trophies are just a sad indication of how much you're wasting your life.

So glad they're not on Wii U

I don't get it either and I think it's a non issue. However, I wonder sometimes if I am underestimating its importance. After all, the Wii got replaced by the Wii U just to appeal to "that certain" crowd.

I play my 3DS a lot.

If it had achievements i would play it a hell of a lot more than i already do.

I even got 48/50 medals on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (randoms never go for the 5 hit duel combo grrrr)

I'll be honest, I just find this sad. I have friends like this...where gaming for them has become almost entirely about getting "trophies" or "achievements" rather than playing a game for the socialization, the beauty of the graphics or music, the joy of the exploration, the fun of the gameplay, or the satisfaction of completion/finishing...or in other words, enjoying the game for what it is. I just find the whole "achievement" system to be redundant and unnecessary. It's also a bit patronizing...I mean, obviously if I'm going to play a game I don't think I need something to pop up and say "Achievement Unlocked: Go-Getter" for starting up the game or "Achievement Unlocked: Investigator" for accessing the menu the first time. Obviously I can understand that a lot of the achievements are for very specific, often hard-to-get things and I can see how it could be addicting as it's not really that different from games that focus on shooting for the "highest score" like Arcade games of old. Personally, I'm glad Nintendo doesn't have achievements as I'd find them to be annoying and unnecessary. However, if there was a way to disable them then I'd have no problem with Nintendo offering the option for such a system since I know that does really appeal to a lot of people. I just don't personally want/need it ever.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

I never understood the appeal of trophies. It's a complete immersion breaker. There you are running on the roof tops in your Assassin's outfit, and suddenly here pops up a floating flag in the middle of nowhere. Or while trying to survive a shoot-out in the flavellas of Sao Paulo, here jumps an annoying pop-up telling you you are now an expert marksman for killing 50 enemies.

Get off my lawn, I'm trying to play the friggin game!

Is this a serious topic?

If you truly don't feel accomplished in your games without some artificial trophy system (which offers no real value other than epenis bragging), than the games you're playing aren't that good in the first place. The only reason those achievement systems even EXIST is to provide an artificial sense of accomplishment that the game is not good enough to provide on its own.. Trophies/achievements are perhaps the prime example of the decline in quality from the games industry.

Nintendo doesn't need to resort to such cheap tactics.

So, I recently read an article on N4G that talked about how Nintendo should adopt it's own Trophy/ Achievement system, and it made me realise something. The lack of such a system is the reason why I have yet to purchase a single game for the system and can't enjoy it. I started getting into the whole trophy game when Sony patched it in back in 2008. I'm not sure why, but it's become a crucial part of the gaming experience for me. It adds a whole new side to the gaming experience by creating a fun way for people across a gaming network to compete while at the same showing how well and how much they play the games they enjoy. Virtually every popular gaming network has it nowadays, and it's that Nintendo has still yet to adopt it themselves. For some reason (for me anyways) earning a notional trophy just makes it feel like you got something out of your game, even if you don't technically get anything out of it. I hope Nintendo pulls a Sony and puts some sort of system in place. It would definitely convince me to take my system out of it's box if I could earn a platinum trophy in Mario/ SSB. Mabye it's just me, but hey, even if you guys disagree that it's not necessary to gaming, I'm you can agree that it's a good thing to have nonetheless. Right? What do you guys think?

Why did u even buy a Wii U?

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Good to have, but I really don't care.

I can see why some people who have little money need these extras to add value to their game.

If you got a backlog as big as mine trophies are the last thing on my mind.

Another good example where trophies help is say Temple run on the smart phone, The game is pretty limited so getting those trophies makes the game more relevant.
