Forums - Microsoft - Ryse: Son Of Rome Is As Fun As Dialing Phone Numbers

Their was one guy on vgchartz who just played Kingdom hearts while only pressing the attack button (he made a video where he went to the fridge having some food while pressing the attack button) and he beat the boss =p.

For some people, Bayoneta was one of the best rack and slash, with the most advanced combat mechanics of this generation... Or you could play it with one hand.

You can play Arkhan games pressing only Y during combats.

Well, the moral is "If you are not interested in high combat scores and executions, those are not games for you".

Er...no? At the very least, dodging is a critical part of surviving in both of those games. While you can feasibly just use one attack button to win in Arkam and Bayonetta, you have to at least be pressing two in order to dodge.

"Ryse: Son of Rome feels like all sizzle and no steak. It's a procession of CPU-controlled warriors lining up to fall on protagonist Marius' sword in a stylish slow-mo ballet of blood and dismemberment. Killing enemies feels less and less triumphant with each strike, which is kind of a problem when the main focus of the game is seeing just how high you can stack the corpses."

He/she is entitled to their opinion but I just don't understand it given the genre. This is the type of game where I want to slice and dice through mindless enemy after mindless enemy. Just like God of War, Conan, Dynasty Warriors, Dead Rising, Dante's Inferno, Darksiders, etc etc. It's about the slo mo ballet of blood and dismemberment and the stack of killed enemies.

I never felt any less of a sense of triump in those games, don't think I will in this one either.

Now, just let me see... Wouldn't want to fall making any reach... Guess I'll just use this post over here as a step ladder. Based on what I read here, you consider that Ryse offers the same kind of experience as God of War, Dynasty Warriors, Darksiders and Dead Rising, them being all of the same, slice'n'dice kind.

This, I stole from grandpa...It's called soap.

Friends!!!

It was just a hyperbole. Of course the game design of Batman AA and AC reward you for using multiple atacks and combos. But if you want just to rush throught the campain you can easily go if basic moves and counters.

If Batman games relied only in combat it would be a very boring game. End that, as others have pointed out is probally the main problem with Ryse.

If the Arkham games didn't have the combat, they would still have the stealth gameplay. I would like to see you rush through them with pressing a single button.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

A good story could still salvage the game if the gameplay is boring.

What were people expecting from a Crytek game?

Yes, that misture of gameplay mechanics that made the games so great.

Unfotunately Ryse has only one of those, and thats is because I think the game might get boring fast for many gamers, no matter how good the combat might be.
