Forums - Nintendo - Are all these External Drive good for the WiiU or not?

Are all the items on the links below OK to be used on WiiU? Basically is any USB 3.0 hard/pen drive OK?

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

You can use USB 3.0 devices/sticks, although when using a usb hard drive (not a stick) you need to have an AC adapter or a second usb cable to power the device, because the Wii U won't let you use a HDD that uses one usb cable for power and data.

that is because new portables are USB 3.0

you will need a Y cable. usb mini b to USB or mini usb to USB depending on the connector type.

Best is to get one on AC power.

But a stick should be working no problem?

Yes, a stick works fine. You can even use an SD card reader as a storage for your games.

I think you can't use an SD card to store your games! I bought a 32 GB one and I couldn't use it for that! I think the SD is to save photos or something like that!

You actually can if you have an external SD card reader connected to your Wii U via usb, but it is true that you can use the sd card slot of the Wii U itself for photos, saves and mii's only apparently.

Oh so I need a external SD card reader. Damn.. Well at least I had a USB hard drive with 320 GB that no one at home used. 320 GB is more than enough for me .
