Forums - Nintendo - Will SSB Have The Highest Sales In The Fighting Genre Again For The 8th Generation? Also How Much Will Both Sell Lifetime?

How Many Copies of SSB for WiiU and 3DS Be Lifetime? (Together)

Over 15mil 64 33.86%

12-15mil 33 17.46%

10-12mil 35 18.52%

8-10mil 29 15.34%

5-8mil 28 14.81%

Total:189

I could see the Wii U version selling around 4.5 million lifetime and the 3DS version selling around 7.5 million lifetime. So 12 million total. I'll be picking up both versions for sure.

Predictions! By the end of 2014... PS4: 15 million +, Wii U: 12 million, XOne: 9.5 million!

Around the Network

They will have the same characters but completely different stages. The Wii U game will mostly feature stages from home console games, and the 3DS game will mostly feature stages from handheld games. Stages like Final Destination and Battlefield I don't know about, haven't checked that out yet.

And like tbone51 said, the art style is different on the 3DS, the characters has a celshade style outline on them, Sakurai said it was because it was more difficult to see the characters on screen without.

As of the sales, I don't know what to expect, it's wildly difficult to predict right now since the console sales goes way up and down, yes mostly down for Wii U this year.

Yep.

Again, they are not two different games, but two different versions of the same game! It's just like how Pokemon does it, only they're on different consoles and instead of version exclusive Pokemon you have version exclusive features.

Yeah, they will have different features as well. It has been said that the 3DS game will be a more personal and customisable experience, but I don't know how that will play out in the end.

And, they might be cross-compatible in some ways or not, but it has at least been confirmed that you cannot play the main game cross platform (3DS players fighting Wii U players).

Yep.

what are you talking about? That sounds very ridiculous right there. 3DS and WiiU are completely different in power. Besides that i meant they will play a little different. They have completely different stages, its not a port. You saying that obviously shows you dont kno wat your talking about! Dont be mad SSB will be the best selling fighter again for the 3rd generation!

They will play a little different, huh? Sure you're not making that up?

And since when does different stages means different game?

No im not making that up, and yes they are different. Halo 3 and Halo ODST are different right?

Seperate sales they'll outsell all fighting games most likely next gen.

Yeah, those Halo games are different because they are actually different. You still haven't said how they will play differently.

Is Same fighting Mechanics but 3DS version has customization (which Director stated), Entirely different art style, Different Stages, Different Title, Different Experience as this is the first time you dont nessacirily have to share the same screen, and wat ever else is not announced. These games will be as different as COD BLOP and COD BLOP2. Very similar yet different. They are not the same exact game like PSASBR is with the ps3 vs vita version

Character customisation? What can you customise? I'm very curious about that.

Artstyle? It just means that the 3DS version won't look as good as the Wii U version. Sakurai said so himself:

http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1972435/super_smash_bros_the_difference_between_wii_u_3ds_versions.html

And, different stages means different game, huh? I suppose when I change stage in a fighting game I'm playing another game...

take it as you will, no matter wat they will both sell well regardless

WiiU: 8.0m
3DS: 3.0m

Does anyone really care about fighting games on a handheld? I sure as hell don't see 3DS version outselling WiiU version even if the install base disparity is massive.

Well like Lawlight said, that's only because of the hardware, specifically the 3DS's screen size, and no other reason.

Also, a console's total sales only go up, but the thing is the 3DS is already miles ahead of the Wii U and it is selling at a much greater pace, so the current gap is only going to be even greater when SSB4 releases.

They will once Smash Bros. 4 comes out, as I'm sure people care more about the games themselves than the system they're on.

Of course, but what I meant was that we have no idea how the Wii U will fare and how many consoles there will be sold when SSB comes out, and afterwards. We don't even have a release quarter. For all we know the Wii U version could sell more, like blightedpersona questioned, fighting game on a handheld? Maybe, but I think the Wii U version will by far be the most prominent game, SSB on a handheld is still a new thing.

Yep.

I don't see why it matters how well the Wii U fares, as the 3DS will still be miles ahead no matter what, unless you're trying to disregard their current install bases which I hope you're not. Also, we know the game releases in 2014, and we can guesstimate that by the end of 2014, 3DS will have sold say 45-55m and Wii U 8-12m. Just throwing some numbers out there. Whatever numbers they'll actually end up at, you can bet the 3DS will be in a league of it's own. And again, I doubt the average joe gives a hoot about the system a game is on more than said game itself, but I said this already.
