Forums - Nintendo - Wii U: Nintendo Sells Under 500,000 in Six Months

Why do they keep saying that the price cut and Zelda didn't help? Wasn't the price cut Sept 20th? That only makes up the last week and a half of the quarter. and the retail version of Zelda wasn't released until Oct.

Well... honestly people who say it will break 20mil are just being optimistic. All the evidence points to under 20mil at this point and saying otherwise is going against evidence. Me? I think it will break 20mil but not by much.

What evidence you ask? Well it being 2.77mil units behind the game cube at the same point in its life. It needs to ship about 6mil by march to catch up.

So i ask you the same question i asked someone else in this thread. You know a way to ship units instantaneously?

What's crazy about that Gamecube comparison is that the next gen competition (which both seem highly desired) hasn't even launched, not to mention the PS3 and 360 are still beating it (PS3 might even have a better holiday, not sure about 360).

Of course they ship units ahead of time. OK, so add another week to that. you are still only looking at the last 2-3 weeks of the quarter. That shouldn't be looked at as a failure for the enitre quarter.

The WWHD bundle was probly being shipped out in Aug. It had over a month. It takes a month by boat to reach destination and the bundle came out on the 20th of december... and it reaches destination before its released. So a month and a half of wwhd shipments

You know, there are a lot of users who have been chanting about how the launch of the PS4 and the One will somehow help the Wii U get better sales, being squeezed in between the new 8th gen with good pre-orders and a 7th gen that still moves decently will magically be a positive sitiuation for the Wii U, which is also going to lack almost every big 3rd party multiplat for Q4 -13 and all of 2014 on top of everything.

I just cannot fathom this logic even one bit.

mummelman the point being is that Xbox one and ps4 are massivly overhyped, ones consumers find out they are just cooking with water as well, they will buy a wii u

That is simply an even more degraded version of "Wii users will upgrade to 360" back in the day. At best, wishful thinking. If anything, the launch of the PS4 and One will mean that the Wii U has four main competitors, and being sort of inbetween hardware-wise, it can stand comparisons to both (meaning that the Wii U will be compared to the PS3 or 360 more easily than the PS4 and One will), this is hardly an advantage and by far the silliest of the Messiah theories from the Nintendo camp today. Bottom line is; the Wii U lacks basic appeal, this will not be remedied by software, price or function, or bundles for that matter, it was simply a mistake to ever release it in its current form, I'm surprised it took them so long to cut the Basic model, with it clearly being the fastest sinking of the two stones.

I guess there's no sense in talk though, you're just going to have to see the 2014 numbers for yourself, prepare for a massive new years decline at the end of january and a terribly slow february/march, and a Q2 2014 much like 2013.

As for the PS4 and One; I don't know quite yet what to make of them, let's just say that I don't think they'll send the planet off course with their sales, annual or lifetime and I have actually stated and maintained that I believe the 8th will be the first in history to show a decline in the home console market. Then again, the PS4 and One won't have to do all that much in order to outsell the Wii U.
