Wind Waker HD, pushed Wii U to those sales. Great boost.

This numbers are from before the Wind Waker HD in Europe.

Indeed, these numbers were caused by the anticipation for The Wind Waker. With the game actually being released, we should see shipments of -100k for the holiday quarter.

Don't hate on Wind Waker you meany

Another solid reason why Nintendo should go the way of third parties. People want Nintendo games, not Nintendo consoles. It's been like this since the N64.

And what would Nintendo gain from this, financially?

Uh, huge sales from the 80 million install base in current gen consoles such as PS3 and 360. The PS4 and Xbone will probably have the same at the end of the future gen cycle.

The original Wii was a fluke, no way will Nintendo ever pass 30 million with the Wii U.

This really shouldn't be controversial, experts like Pacher have advocated this for years.

Again, how will they make more money that way?

It is a known fact that console makers don't really make money on consoles, they are reap benefits from licensing fees and other user fees (e.g. Xbox Live).

Again, the original Wii was a fluke, the Wii U was breaking even at its past price point I believe. So now, theoretically, Nintedo should be losing money on each unit sold. Nintendo can't recover much from licensing fees because they virtually have no third party support. So their main income is from pushing first-party software.

They can push first party software better on consoles people actually want to buy. They would make more money by selling software alone rather than have to spend money on console development, R&D, etc.

I'm disappointed Pezus. It took you 11 hours to make this thread.

I can explain it:

Luckily I got some help:

I do not see it taking more than a month for PS4 to get to 1m in Europe. Maybe five weeks max.

That's based on or around 250k a week avg with the fifth week being the Christmas week if my calendar calculations are correct.

What I do not know or possibly even guess at is how the wii u sales will be like.

Wii U is overtracked. Probably by a huge margin too. There is no way that only 300k is on shelves. That would mean it would be scarce and hard to find at retail.

wii u basic skus that were returned ?

First time I hear about returned consoles. Apart of the ROD fiasco on xbox, but that's a malfunction.

This thread is gonna become a nice fighting arena. 1000+ posts incoming.

Change the thread title to [ZOMG!!!1 WII U FIRST CONSOLE ::EVER:: WITH NEGATIVE SALES]

Sony and MS maybe. This is not true for Nintendo.

the original Wii was a fluke

Before the Wii released, Nintendo went on and on about red and blue ocean, and having a controller that non-gamers would find familiar and compelling. The system was purposely based on simplicity, functionality and interactivity. You 'Wii was a fad/fluke/whatever' people are so annoying in your attempts to discredit the console's success.

Concerning your first point it is fact Wii U has lost money from the start. Second point... you really dont have one. Just because thats what niintendo wanted to do doesnt prove it wasnt a fluke

The wii u shipped minus 10k to europe in the last six months but sold 26k in europe last week.

I would say things are looking up and that is no spin. That's obvious. They were moving 26k globally a few weeks back now they are doing that alone in europe.

Forget the past Nintendo fans and look to the future, it might not be spectacular but could be still bright.
